Am I being really stupid or what? I just cannot find just *where* to post my charity nomination. I feel really strongly about Different Strookes, having had a stroke nearly 7 years ago. Different Strokes was set up in only 1996 to enable younger stroke survivors help younger stroke survivors through regular exercise classes.

Anyway, please direct me to the *Nominate* link (yes, I know I've got brain damage after my stroke). It's probably under my nose!

birdie: I have pm'ed you. (In case the pm doesn't 'pop-up', on the right hand side of screen near the top where it says 'Welcome birdie', there is a private messages link. Click on this and you will get to my message. Please get in touch if you need any more help. :))

    1. Sane
    2. http://www.sane.org.uk
    3. Deals with all aspects of mental health
    4. Sane runs Saneline which is a helpline for people with mental health problems, their friends, carers and anyone with an interest in mental health. It is an invaluable resource for people; many of the callers see it as a lifeline. The helpline is staffed by volunteers and it has recently had to cut down its opening hours due to funding problems. This has had a big impact on callers – it is now more difficult to get through and of course not as many calls can be taken. I believe this charity saves peoples lives and deserves support – any of us can be affected by mental health problems – our own, our families or our friends.

    WaterAid

    https://www.wateraid.org

An international NGO dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education to the world's poorest people.

Why? WaterAid is the only UK charity dedicated exclusively to the provision of this basic essential for life. Without water people cannot do much else. Without basic santitation and basic hygiene skills, people die from diarrhoea, cholera, etc. Teaching a village to make a well and build latrines mean that women & children are freed from walking all day to find water, teachers go back to schools, children don't have to leave class to get water for the school, people have privacy for going to the loo, women & children & the elderly don't have to risk their lives or their dignity going to the loo in the bush at night... WaterAid teach a village how to lift themselves out of poverty and disease.
  • The Cystic Fibrosis Trust

    https://www.cftrust.org.uk

My lovely niece who is four was diagnosed with this at the age of two. It was passed on by her parents who both carry the faulty gene. CF is the most common genetic illness around. It is always fatal and the lifespan is only around 30 years. They are so close to finding a cure for this horrible disease and all sufferers deserve to be given the chance for a long, healthy life. It is a horrific illness that affects the lungs and the digestive system.

A free 24-hour helpline for children.

I think this charity fits well with Martin's own charitable desire to help some of the most vulnerable people in our society - Children:
ChildLine is a free, 24-hour helpline (0800 1111) for children in distress or danger in the UK. Trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise and protect children and young people who may feel they have nowhere else to turn.
Since it was launched in 1986, ChildLine has saved children's lives, found refuges for children in danger on the streets, and given hope to thousands of children who believed no one else cared for them. ChildLine has now counselled well over one million children and young people.
ChildLine campaigns on behalf of children by relaying what children tell them to the policy-makers who can help change children’s lives for the better.

  • charity name: SIGN POST INTERNATIONAL
    charity number: 1057437
    website: http://www.signpost-international.org/
description: HELPING CHILDREN LIVING IN POVERTY IN UK + ABROAD

    why you should nominate them:
They work with abandond, abused and needy children in Russia, Phillipines, Brazil, Uganda, Rwanda ,Philipines and the Uk. They have a small team of full and part time workers in scotland (around 20 people.) The charity sends teams of people out to work with children in there communitys, when the teams go out they work closely with churches and other groups that are also trying to help children. The charity also runs a child sponsor ship scheme where they can support a spasific child by educating and feeding them.
Just now SignPost have more than 13 volunteers working in Russia, Rwanda, Uganda and the Philipines. Everyone at signpost shares the same desire, to give needy children a bettet chance and a safer life.

Please supprt this charity, what they are doing around the world is just great.
This amount of money could make a massive difference to this charitys work.

    thanks alot
