  • I would like to nominate the charity HELP A POOR & NEEDY CHILD FUND. Registered Charity Number 1003359. web site: https://www.helpapoorchild.com.

    HELP A POOR CHILD is a non-profit, voluntary organisation, providing assistance to children and families struggling in terrible poverty.

    Most of the children we work with are deprived to an unimaginable degree, as there is no education, little food, endemic diseases, high levels of disability, parental rejection and working from as early as 5 years of age or begging/scavenging for their survival.

    There is no help for them and no hope either, as children's affairs have no priority.

    There are hundreds, possibly thousands, of children who have been orphaned by the tsunami. In India, these children are currently being sent into orphanages - most of which are already overcrowded and lacking facilities.

    HELP A POOR CHILD has started to plan the building of a Village to include accomodation and a school, to create for these children, the weakest and most vulnerable of all the victims, a decent environment where they can recover from the trauma and start to rebuild their lives.

    The Chairty's target is £105,000 and are desperate for funds. To date nearly £10,000 has been raised.

    Did the Tresco marathon(twice) for them ,I leant alot more about this genetic disorder that hits the young and I was really impressed how close they were to a cure for CF
    QUOTE=paperclip]The Cystic Fibrosis Trust

    https://www.cftrust.org.uk

    Aiming to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

    A friend of ours (6 year old boy) has inherited the CF gene from his parents. It is only through this young boy that I have become aware of just how close researchers are to finding a cure for the fatal disease. The current average lifespan of sufferers is just 31 years - researchers have identified the problem gene, and are currently working towards developing a cure. CF is a disesase which may be cureable within a generation, given enough research funds.

    In past years, the CF Trust has been a close runner up in the vote for MSE charity - PLEASE help these (and future) kids - lets make CF this year's WINNER.[/QUOTE]

    1. NAPAC - National Association for People Abused in Childhood

    2. https://www.napac.org.uk https://www.charitree.org.uk

    3. Help & support for adults who experienced childhood abuse.

    4. NAPAC serves the estimated 1 in 5 adults who were abused (physically, emotionally, sexually, neglectfully) in childhood, providing information and support. It’s like an adult version of ChildLine. Unfortunately although it does equally good work it doesn’t have the same high profile because its cause is not fashionable and the issue of adults abused as children is an uncomfortable subject. The financial impact cannot be accurately estimated, but total cost of mental health problems in England alone has been estimated at £32 billion, and at least half of those suffering mental health problems have been abused in childhood! NAPAC operated an info/support line for two years - it received 20,000 calls! And this is not a well known charity. But unfortunately it had to close when funds ran out last year. It is trying to re-establish this helpline, and would really benefit from a significant donation.

    Yes, this thread has made me aware of some wonderful charities which I had not previously heard of - if only we could help them all. There is another small UK charity called Wells for India, which works in India towards providing sufficient clean water for drinking, cooking, washing, the animals and for crops. All the things we take for granted here.
