I saw the thread title and thought: ' ooh, this could be interesting if people are using diets from years ago'. I am confused, because I just can't see how toast, Weetabix, spaghetti bolognese, rice, chocolate digestives and scones can be considered diet food. I've bought various old diet books in jumble sales, charity shops and boot fairs, from 1950s and 1960s and they are all low carb.1

MrsStepford the thread has been around a lot longer than I have been doing it but to me the old style is 'Old Style Moneysaving' as opposed to old style dieting, I think there are slimming world and WW threads on other parts of the site (health and beauty?) I don't 'police' the thread and have no problem if someone is paying to belong to a slimming group or using a paid for app we are here as a support group and to discuss what works for us individually, give hints and tips and just have a rant if needed
Here we use a variety of tools to try and lose weight some count calories so count the calories of the scone or biscuit, I chose not to count calories but to use the SW method but they all boil down to one thing we need to burn off more calories than we eatI think it's something like 3500 calories equals 1lb of fat. If you look at a lot of diets or as they are often called 'healthy eating plans' no food is banned you just have to eat some foods in moderation and try to ensure you counter balance it with healthy choices. Potatoes are no longer considered the devils food
just don't add loads of butter and cheese however I know older woman who had it drilled into them in the 60s and 70s who will still cut them out of their diet when trying to lose weight.

Well done on losing that 2lb General_Grant
Sirens I have got the sewing machine out do you want cushions for that wagon, I reckon if it's comfortable we might be more inclined to stay in it.
Unfortunately missing last week's weigh in didn't make the problem go away and i'm reporting a +2lb which is for two weeks, I should have faced the scales last week instead of putting my head in the sand and carrying on eatingso some one throw be a line to get back in the wagon
I missed that it was your birthday Izadora, hope you have a good day
B - overnight oats with fruit
L - HM pizza made using focaccia bread as the base with pesto instead of tomatoes and we won't talk about the mozzarella
D - not sure yet I have a couple of skinned, boned chicken thighs defrosted in the fridge or I made a crustless vegetable quiche lunch timeLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin7 -
Hello x
Ive had one of my scans today so had to drink 2 litres of water but all ok - just got Friday to get through now - I have a private breast clinic so count myself very lucky to have DH's work health insurance.
I have done a lot of nibbling this week so will try and restrain myself - getting into a bit of a habit so will go and brush my teeth in a minute as had an early tea. Hopefully that will put me off x
Well said Brambling and Happy Belated Birthday Izadora xx
I got into a smaller pair of jeans today so feeling positive - I send those vibes to you all xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.7 -
Ooh Gingerlily that sounds lovely, I think I'll definitely have a bright a cheery wagon, maybe flowers and butterflies! If you're offering Brambling I'll take some matching cushions, though the amount of time I'm hoping to stay in it I might be better of with a sleeping bag! Throwing out a line for you, well make a proper wagon train and circle them like in the old west, so those calories can't get in xx'You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. Good good evening everyone
Happy Birthday, Izadora 🥳🎂🥂🍾
Brambling excellent post!👏 Commiserations on your gain 😿Jump aboard the waggon, we’ll wait for you.
General Grant congratulations on your loss👏SIRENS well done on STS and looking at it in the right way. 👍
Greenbee your morning sounds idyllic
Molly hoping you get good results from your scans. Well done on getting into smaller jeans, that’s really good going 👏
gingerlily that all sounds yummyWent to the local Co-op for milk, and called in at the newly re-opened village tea rooms (now takeaway) for lunch and (ahem!) treats. This afternoon spent a couple of hours in the garden, clearing overgrown jungle where the birds had nested (an on-going task, which won’t be completed for a while yet) and found one of the nests nicely hidden - I checked to make sure there was no second family in there. I was pleased to see that they’d used some of Senior Doggy’s fur which I’d put out for them
Today’s eats
B : grapefruit, oatcakes with Marmite, oats with milk
L : watercress soup, bread roll (large, so half with the soup & half with thin spread of honey (no butter or fat spread) - these from village tea rooms now turned takeaway; satsuma
AT : slice of Victoria sponge cake (from tea rooms/ takeaway)
D : cheese omelette, peas, celery and carrots; yogurt with raspberries.“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️
