Old Style Weight Loss 2020 - Part 2

Hi #ouraggie . My weight reached 13 st 13 lb too and it was at that point that I finally began to get things under control (it's the fear of moving to the next stone which triggers things, I think). I'm now 8 st 11 lb (yes, this morning got back to what I was on 3 June and weekly weigh-in is tomorrow). Weight loss was gradual - and got a final extra push with a bereavement (apparently very common to either over- or under-eat at that time).
Kept to yesterday's plan. Here's today's:
B - coffee, cheese on wholemeal toast with baked beans
M - coffee, 1 cookie, pecan nuts
L - chicken in pastry, new potatoes, pineapple, coffee
A - banana
D - pork shoulder steak, green beans, sweetcorn
(1635 calories)

Hello all,
Day one of no sweets/junk/"treats" went well. I made mini cakes for a friend's daughter and didn't even test the buttercream.
Todays meals :-
B: bacon and egg muffins (they're like mini omelettes made in silicon cake cases)
L: the other half of the avocado on 2 small slices w/meal bread
D : pork loin steak, butternut squash chips and salad
Snacks: chopped up carrot and a handful of strawberries]
Slightly disappointed this morning to find that I haven't lost about 3 stone after giving up eating rubbish for 1 day. The portable pest previously known as the cat is feeling better too, thank goodness. She's eating again and is back to being her usual obnoxious self.
I hope you've sorted the insurance Blue_doggy. They can't really want £700 surely?
Take care all of you

Hi everyone. Thanks for the kind words of empathy and suggestions re OH.
I thought I would share a couple of tips for saving calories:
1. Make your mash with half spud and half swede, as swede has hardly any calories. Tasty too.
2. If you like a stir fry, you might be interested in trying this sauce (see pic). I get mine in Poundstretcher for 99p. One tbsp works out at about 15 calories and i put 3 in. Before this I was using the little foil sachets which had at least 150 calories!
I hope you all have a good day and can stay on target. I'm going to have a kitchen disco while I make my stir fry lunch!9 -
Oops, Brambling, i forgot to say that I'll join the chart for the next challenge but will still post my progress if that's ok.7

Hello lovely people x
Welcome ouraggie xHope you are all doing well. Ive had a shock today:
A 6 week wait on the 2 week Oxfordshire NHS cancer pathway is NOT acceptable - thank goodness im covered by Dave's work insurance - Im anxious enough. Im one of the lucky ones i have an alternative what about those who don't!
Has anyone else experienced this problem before now? Or is it that people are venturing back to the doctors and they are inundated. Not impressed xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.8 -

There have been 60% less cancer referrals in april and may compared to the same months last year. Oncologists have been dreading the backlog. Not just you by any means. I'm so pleased you have options. X
A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome we can spare it, yellow socks9 -
Afternoon All,
Well, that was a hectic day!! I'm now off work until Monday though
ouraggie Welcome and I can definitely sympathise with having a well-meaning but clueless husband when it comes to dieting. I've lost count of the number of times I've nearly launched things at him when he points out how much more full my plate is than his when mine's 2/3 veg and he's got a massive lump of meat and some chips with not a vegetable in sight. Enjoy your kitchen disco and stir fry
greenbee Sorry about flapjackgate but sometimes if you're that tired you just need to do whatever makes it easier at the time. I'm glad you're less tired and able to meal plan and book yoga this week
Sirens I'm glad you're feeling a bit better today. My husband went into town yesterday and said the queues for Sports Direct were shocking
Blue Doggy I can't believe they can try to charge that much for doggy insurance!!! I hope you manage to find something more reasonable and I'm glad that the farm shop bacon was good
Brambling I hope you've recovered from your hot and frustrating gardening. I have no idea whether carrot pesto would work but it sounds interesting
General Grant I don't think I've been 8 stone something since I was about 8!!!
Gingerlily I have the same problem with my husband working from home so not being able to get away from the 'helpful' advice. A few rather sharp stares did seem to make him less inclined to share his tips
Cranky Very well done for not testing the buttercream, I reckon that should've meant at least a 1 stone loss by tomorrow. I'm glad the kitty's feeling better
Molly I think a lot of services are going to be quite stretched at the moment so it's good that you've got other options. The NHS are amazing but the couple of times I've needed an operation I've gone private. Partly because it was quicker but I also figure that me using my medical insurance frees up the space for another NHS patient. Best of luck.
TTB I knew that there'd be fewer referrals than normal at the moment but 60% is shocking!!
Seeing as I'm switching the laptop off, so there's no temptation to check in on work, I probably won't be around for the next few days. Best of luck and stay safe everyone xx8 -
Good evening everyone
Brambling, Cranky, Izadora sadly pet insurance for dogs is mega-££££. Junior Doggy's is a bit over £700 for one year, and for Senior Doggy they want just under £800. It’s difficult to change insurers, as the new insurer won’t cover any pre-existing conditions (e.g. arthritis) or anything remotely similar to a previous one-off (e.g. a broken leg four years ago could mean no broken legs would be covered in future). I’ll be setting up a self-insurance kitty when I’ve checked out legal cover (cat owners aren’t liable if moggy 😽attacks someone or causes a road accident, but dog owners are). Oh, and don’t even mention the excess you have to cover before they’ll pay anything ...
(mini-rantette over)
Best wishes to Everyone in your weight loss, keep up the good work!
Today’s food
B : porridge
S : four oatcakes with Marmite
L : cheese salad (apple, celery, radishes); nectarine
D : chicken stir fry (cabbage, onion, aubergine - no sauce); yogurt with raspberries

@Brambling - I don't know about pesto, but carrot tops were a very nice addition to my random leftover bits of green that go into soup each week.
Tonight's yoga was cancelled, so I sat in the garden and indulged in elderflower cordial (home made) and pork scratchings (not homemade, but they're low carb, high protein and I think I needed the salt) as well as 66g of ice cream after supper. So not a fast day as planned, but still lowish carb (90g) and 1700 calories which is fine for my non-fast days. Tomorrow is early morning yoga, pilates and evening yoga again - so barely time to eat - and will be a fast day.7
