Old Style Weight Loss 2020 - Part 2

Hi all, sorry I've been quiet, a bit of a funny week. I'm reporting a STS today. I'm quite fed up about not losing any weight these last 2 weeks as I'm sure I could not (safely) eat less or do more (I have a significant neurological disability). This week I have had a piece of fruit for breakfast about 11 ish, a piece of fruit for lunch at about 3, a normal family meal at teatime, not large portions and less carbs than everyone else, with a pudding of 100 calories (fruit, choc ice, jelly with a tablespoon of cream). No supper. I can say, hand on heart, I havent cheated. So I have no option but to keep on doing what I'm doing and hope things right themselves. Grrrr.
Anyway, I hope you are all achieving. I'll read back when I get a chance. 🙂A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome we can spare it, yellow socks6 -
Good evening everyone
Black_saturn your meals always look very consistent, and healthy snacks
Monnagran I’m so glad you’ve found a dietary regime that suits you, works for you, and is kind. There are so many punitive diets around, a kind one is rare. Would you mind sharing what it is? And, it might be helpful if you did post your food intake; it could help people see what works and perhaps open a new avenue for anyone who is a bit stuck and despondent. I read other people’s food lists, and by critiquing them to myself and comparing with what I do, I learn.
tighteningthebelt a really big hug for you (no hug emoji, flowers instead) 💐. It is very upsetting not to lose any weight, when you’ve been trying so hard, and eating so very very little. Are you perhaps eating too little, and your body is refusing to let go of anything in case there’s a famine? (Apologies if that suggestion is out of order.)STS though is better than a gain ... 👍
Weighing in with an STS. I’m not surprised, as I’m very close to the weight I stuck at for many years, and my poor old bod may be thinking it’s done enough. Wrong! Plus the previous weeks’ messing about hasn’t helped.
Too cold and windy today to do anything out of doors, so I wrote up a month’s worth of meal plans, and had a long phone conversation with my sister this afternoon. A friend left a packet of very nice chocolate Florentine biscuits on my doorstep (delivered by her son during his daily run). Yum 😋 but oops!
Menu for today:B : porridge
D : baked duck breast with onion, peas and carrots; yogurt with cherries (found in freezer, left over from Christmas and the Black Forest Trifle that didn’t get made)
AT : 3 Florentines
T : 2 apples and 1 tangerine with Skyr
S : 3 Florentines (again)

Morning all
and well done to all that weigh in
I was sidetracked by a phone call last night and forgot to update the chart for the weekend (I've too many sisters) Monna is -4lb in total correct for you I can't remember if I've updated you this week already ?
Thanks for Boris' clear instructions I received a early whats app from a colleague this morning asking if she should have gone to work? I've said not according to me as I though we had been told 'if you can't work from home you can go to work' which implies if you can work from home stay there, I'm stir crazy as I'm on my own I think she is stir crazy because she's not!! I may be stir crazy but I think i'll stay where I am for a while longer although I find I'm talking to the cat more and more
I think it's sad that some of the songs and nursery rhymes my parents taught us seem to be gone, I think some where old Dorset ones as I use to get blank stares when I mentioned them, most have been put into storage in my brain for now but I'm sure will return in 20 plus years when I can't remember what I did yesterday but I can recall all the words to 'inky pinky ponky'
Food wise today is a day of left oversnasi goreng for lunch and roast beef and vegs for dinner
Right must join yet another skype call have a good day all

Morning Losers.
Brambling, you are correct, it is minus 4 so far. I really don't know how you cope with all these figures coming in.
Blue. I don't know how to explain what I'm doing because it is very personal and simply a reaction to a lifetime of issues around food. I could tell you but it would involve pages of explanations and you would die of boredom.
Suffice it to say I have spent my life trying to lose weight and failing abysmally. I have never known what it was to sit down and enjoy a meal without guilt because I was breaking some rule or other.
I have come to the conclusion that everyone is made differently and all the nutrition advice will only apply to certain people. For instance, apples are good, vitamin-packed things to eat, right? A safe thing to eat on any diet. Well, a colleague of mine cannot eat apples. The mere sniff of an apple will see her being blue-lighted to hospital. So the generally accepted advice doesn't apply to her.
Similarly bread is a no-no for most diets. Restricted on calorie controlled diets, verboten on low-carb diets. I have spent at least 70 years trying to avoid bread. This is a shame because I love bread. Honestly, I'd eat rubber bands if they were in a sandwich.
I think all my issues around food are based on guilt. I used to wish there was a pill that I could take that would satisfy me and supply all the nutrition I needed, then I would never have to make another decision about what I was putting in my mouth.
Finally, a few months ago I'd had enough and had a big re-think about how I was going to spend the last few years of my life.
So far, so boring.
Tomorrow I will tell you what I decided to do about it. You've heard quite enough about me for one day.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Morning All,
I'd made a really long list, keeping track of who'd posted what over the long weekend, and then managed to have a special moment and deleted everything before I'd had a chance to start typing. Ooops...
Anyway, sorry for the lack of addressing any individual posts but I'm an idiot
Well done for the losses and STS, even if you're disappointed with having not lost it's still much better than a gain.
I hope everyone had a good bank holiday. Mine seemed to involve a lot of sitting around in the garden and drinking beer. Not brilliant for weight loss but it was an enjoyable way to spend my time, I managed to have a good video get together with friends on Saturday night as well. I should've weighed in this morning but had already had coffee (okay, I'l admit it, and biscuits...) before I remembered so will try first thing tomorrow instead. I'm already prepared for the fact that it's not going to be pretty but I'm a little bit worried about just how bad it's going to be.
Best of luck and stay safe everyone xx6 -
I love this thread. Its so funny and informative, and there's lots of good food ideas and loads of support
Brambling thank you for the updates. Losing, STS, gaining, it is really good to be along with you all for the ride (and hopefully be a loser
).
I caved in to DH on Saturday and he went off to buy the WW scales. Guess what, exactly the same as our old ones. We now have a pair of scales in each bathroom, which is good as I have changed the new ones to stones and pounds for me. Luckily all the dumbbells are sold out everywhere, so he is borrowing DDs and he can only buy some of his own if he regularly uses those for the next couple of months.
So, feeling a bit tired and trying to up my protein intake with pulses. I bought a tin of MrS mixed beans in chilli sauce for lunch yesterday, then today I had.... a tin of cold baked beans (don't ask if I decanted them from the tin). I think I must really be craving carbohydrates and proteins. Agree with Blue Doggy Black Saturn your meals do look very healthy - I like the sound of Green Mung Bean Curry. I make dhal regularly and have a chickpea curry recipe, but need to broaden my recipe horizons (and not eat from the tin! - still they hit the spot). Have had a lovely hot bath tonight and my aching muscles feel lots better.
Looking forward to hearing the next instalment monnagran.

Good evening everyone
SIRENS I hope all your washing dried nicely, and the journey to work, as well as work itself, was not too horrendous.
Black_saturn congratulations on your loss 👏
Brambling I know what you mean about talking to your cat 🐱 more, I find myself talking to my dogs much more, especially out on walks. And not caring if other people think I’m crazy 🤪 It’s amazing what surfaces from the hidden depths of memory when one starts to look. And a pity when local cultural memories get lost.
monnagran I think you’re completely right in your decision. And look, it works! There so often seems to be a rather punitive aspect to weight loss.
Izadora I’m glad you enjoyed your weekendbe brave, stand on the scales tomorrow, assess the damage, and plan how to restore it. (Says one who has binged most of the last month
.)
Supersaver best wishes for the new scales, may they always show a lower weight than you fear! The good thing about eating straight from the tin is that it saves on washing-up!
An unproductive day today, I got a bit chilled when I took the canine doggies out and took ages to warm up. Trying to resist the temptation to get back into my thermals.
Fuel for warming Blue_Doggy
B : bacon & eggs, apple
L : chicken soup, apple

Hello all, I don't seem to have been around recently. I never did collect those scales, my infrequent trips to sainsburys have not allowed room to carry a set of scales home as I am on foot and shopping for 3 adults (i can only carry so much)!!
I am walking every day and have done since lockdown. I am baking (haven't baked in years) but not for me, my hubby and brother are both in the house working from home, while I am furloughed I have taken on the roll of catering manager, so there is cake for coffee breaks, cassorole portioned in the fridge for whenever they are able to take lunch, joint meals Saturday and a roast on Sunday. As I eat a compleatly different diet to them I just match my meals with a plant based alternative.
The walking is working miracles, I go on a long walk around the area daily, hubby joins me at weekend's and plans routs on public footpaths across fields that I would not attempt on my own. Come Wednesday we will be able to exercise more than once a day so I will do my walk and get hubby away from his desk for a walk around the local park to see the cygnets on the lake!
Today I have had 3 pairs of black trousers delivered (cheapest matalan had to offer) as my work trousers don't stay up, and when I return to work I will have to wear somthing, my tops are also huge on me but its easier to wear oversized corporate tops than trousers!! The new trousers are size 12 and fit like a glove, they are black rather than dark navy, but needs must to preserve my modesty!!
Keep well all and carry on all you lovely people.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"9
