TUI refunds thread

My holiday was booked ‘in-store’ and the process for receiving the TUI ‘Refund Credit Note’ is very different compared to on-line bookings.
However, I finally received my ‘Refund Credit Note’ number by email and filled out the refund claim form procedure ‘online’ on 16th June.
This morning I received an email from TUI re the cancellation but I’m a little unsure as to what it is actually telling me. (TUI owe me £3900.00 btw)
The email notes my cancellation details and shows two entries:
Refund Credit Note (R) £3,900.00
Refund Credit Refund(R) -£3,900.00 ...anyone know exactly what those two entries actually mean?
This is a screenshot of the ‘cancellation details’ from TUI’s email:

There is no explanation as to how/when/if I’ll receive my refund. Will they send a follow-up email or do I just sit and wait?...do I need to take any action?___I paid for the holiday in-full by credit card back in early March.
TUI are playing ‘hard to get’...not for the first time;___my phone calls today to their help-desks for online bookings and in-store bookings are just met with this message “our offices are closed. Pls call back during office hours 9am-5pm”.
They've gone awol ___again!
As ever, all replies/advice gratefully received.

TUI emailed me. Funway who supply our holiday are ceasing trading in Sept so are giving refunds now. Seems TUI will be handling it tho so been told to expect it in 28 days1

Been notified my holiday will not be going ahead. Went to TUI cancellation process & this has altered a bit.Daisy_Duck said:

There is no "cancellation charges will not be taken" message now. The whole amount paid, & to be refunded, is there & the "do you want to continue" message. I pressed 'continue' & bounced straight to a screen notifying me my booking ref had been cancelled, refund in 28 days & "confirmation email will be sent". The email arrived immediately & says the amount & will go back to my CC.
I paid the deposit by CC, 3 payments by DD (never doing that again!), & final payment by CC. I had expected the 3 DD payments would go back to the bank & possibly take longer, but it seems all will go back the way I made the deposit. Fine with me.
Of course, that leaves us wondering why some have not had a confirmation email!!! Can't get the screen dump on - sorry.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.1 -
Yes, I will avoid DD in future too. I paid 2 payments via DD and the third one by CC. Will be interesting to see when and where money reappears (hopefully!).
Keep us posted!

I think they'll put it all back on your card, keep a check on it on-line as last time my refund (done by phone) was back on my card within 36 hours. Fingers crossed they are faster than 28 days & it does all go on my card. My cancellation email says:Daisy_Duck said:

Another reason to avoid direct debits to pay for package holidays - why give them more then they need to?Daisy_Duck said:

I booked a holiday with Jet2 in Feb for next Feb. All they have had out of me is the deposit and they wont get a penny more until the day the balance is due. Balance money is sat in a savings pot in Monzo earning a few quid interest, yes not much but better in my pocket for 10 months then theirs.1 -

Though I'm sure some appreciate your reasoning regarding DDs. Some of us have just as valid reason for using it. I was intending to thin down my number of bank accounts, ditch this one which had spare cash in it AND earning interest (with an interest rate drop planned). Decided to pay deposit by CC, then set up DDs to pay for the holiday & clear out the a/c at the same time.bradders1983 said:

As a couple we have 11 x bank accounts, 3 x regular saver accounts, 2 x ISA's and 8 x savings a/c in a mix of fixed & instant access. Plus 2 savings accounts & 2 trust funds we run for our young grandsons. Do I REALLY sound as if I need financial advice &/or the use of Monzo!
The reason I wouldn't do it again is it minimised our ability to get the DD part of our money back from TUI should they prove problematic. Similarly, I'm NOW also mindful of being a secondary card holder on our main credit card account, because not ALL goods would be covered by S75 unless the main cardholder would also benefit from the purchase. Not a problem with a holiday, but could be on other spends I make.
All money advice is best on the financial forums, not a holiday one!Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0 -
Fair enough. The overall point about why giving travel companies more money than you need to still stands. Its also the reason why I only had to chase TUI for £400 a couple of months ago rather than £4000.
Had people only paid bare minimums to travel companies it would have resulted in far less stressful posts on here, thats for sure.0
