My refund for a holiday with a 2 July departure date reached my credit card account today. Only £100 though because I only ever paid the initial low cost deposit

Yours was clearly cancelled early, there are a few people in your position (possibly cruises, not going anywhere for quite a while it seems).  Many (inc us, twice!) had already passed the date for full payment before the holidays were cancelled by TUI.

Even when it's inevitable that bookings will be cancelled by TUI, taking the decision oneself to cancel before they do (or simply failing to meet the full payment date) is a disinclination to travel, a different ballgame for possible refunds.

How long did you wait from cancellation to refund?  I believe that's when the 'counting' starts, from the day you knew you were not going to be provided with the service you'd paid for, not the date you were due to go.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

No it wasn't cancelled early. It was cancelled on 11 June.  I was unable to pay the full balance because TUI's systems wouldn't accept payment.
Originally tried to book online but couldn't because of the length of my partner's name meant the webform wouldn't accept it. So rang up to book. Turns out by booking over the phone, the booking was actually assigned to TUI store 150 miles away.
When the time came for making the full payment, I was actually intending to cancel, sacrificing the full £400 deposit. But the shop was shut because of COVID, and online and phone couldn't make the cancellation or accept payment because the booking was made "in store". They said I wouldn't be penalised for this, but it was a worry.
So I was actually pleased when they cancelled rather than me

    My story:
    • Booked a holiday last year to depart in August 2020 (which was in the 1st lockdown)
    • One of my party was in the high risk for covid
    • When it got to the 'settle up' date they were still undecided as to whether it was going to be cancelled so rather than pay >£5000 to then have to try and get it back again, i decided to move and choose another holiday this May 2021
    • Got an email to say the holiday has been cancelled:
    • opted for refund, which i did online
    • Today I got an email:

    • I made a call to Tui and it turns out, because i paid a bit of the £375 with Paypal and another bit on my debit card, it's being refunded in what looks like instalments
  • I have been fighting Tui since April for my refund that they appear to have "lost". My bank says that it never arrived there and that there is no such thing as a "holding account" which Tui have fobbed me off with several times. In the scene of things, it is a "small" amount but it is causing me so much distress and anxiety now. I do not know now what is left for me to do.

Is their more to the story Danni1st ?   Did you change banks or close a credit card account?  Who gave the bank account details to TUI for the refund?
