We have a family holiday to Sardinia in early August and I have already paid the first part of the deposit, £250, as part of the low deposit scheme. We don't want to go on the holiday but to cancel is the remainder of the deposit, £1k. The balance of the holiday is due for payment on 16 May. Do I take the chance and pay the full balance and then hope it gets cancelled to then get a refund (or voucher to re-book for next year) or try and cancel it before 16 May? - I'm not sure they'll even allow that as their advice currently only applies for holidays up to 11 July.

    Hey,

We've had a holiday booked through TUI which we did in store, we've been trying since the beginning of April to pay for our holiday and although we've managed to get through, we've been cut off several times. We have 4 numbers for them which we've tried all of, we've also emailed to no reply.

The payment deadline was the 14th of April, which has now passed, which is worrying as we don't want to lose everything we already paid! We not had confirmation that they've cancelled it because we've missed it, which is good!

Has anyone else experienced this? I was thinking the last resort of sending a cheque.

    Any help would be perfect.

    Thanks in advance.

As long as you have showed effort in paying (proof also helps)  then they can't classed you as not paying and keep your money.
I certainly wouldn't be sending them a cheque

Hi all late to the party I know but wonder if someone can help.  We were due to fly to Spain on 29 March, tui rang to cancel on 15th, promised a full refund asked me to go into store which I did on 17th.  Holiday was paid in full on credit card.  They asked me to give details of another account in store to enable a bacs payment which I did.  Said it would take a couple of days.  I rang at the end of that week, wait another week.  Then the stores closed. I had an email promising a full refund on 9 April, since then nothing and no joy phoning.  Any idea what I do now?  My credit card co are being less than helpful.  Many tia

They shouldn't be,  you have a legal right to get them to refund the money,  some are  ducking their legal duty..
If you want help with your credit card  just reply and I will try and  talk  you though what to do

    Ah.
There was me thinking that people would check the price of the holiday next year before deciding to keep the voucher and use it and the 'up to20%' extra to pay for the holiday.
I've already priced my next year holiday up so I've got a good idea of what I'm looking at paying when I get my refund voucher.
Silly me to think everyone else would do the same.
Just because one person one person knows the best way of dealing with an issue it's dangerous  to assume that everyone does.
If everyone knew what to do and the best way of doing it, then this whole forum is pointless, as no one would need any help.

You were talking about people 'thinking they will get a cheaper holiday next year'.
I'd say that assumption was dangerous.

Paying the balance on a holiday is discussed here:
You will need to scroll down.
Be aware - there is no right and wrong answer.

As for paying the balance of the low deposit, this has been discussed on this thread around page 49.

Just checking that you've tried these numbers:

BOOKINGS MADE IN A TUI STORE

We’d like to apologise if you haven’t been able to get in touch with us to talk about your booking. In response to the government’s advice, we made the decision to close all of our TUI Stores. While we worked hard behind the scenes to set up our Travel Advisors to work from home, we asked you to hold off on calling us. We’re really grateful for your patience, and are pleased to let you know that we have an update on the situation.

We now have a dedicated team of Travel Advisors set up and ready to help you with your booking. They’ll be able to answer any questions you may have, amend your booking for you, process your refund, take any payments for your holiday and support you in using your refund credit. Just to remind you, if you’ve been sent a refund credit you can also use it on the TUI or First Choice website.

To speak to the team, you can call 0800 009 3836 or 0203 636 1997 between 9am and 5.30pm from Monday to Friday. Please do bear in mind that our call lines are experiencing exceptionally high volumes of calls so It may take longer than usual to get through to us.

Thank you for your patience and we look forward to answering your questions and helping you with your booking.

I don't know if TUI mean they have a 'dedicated team' for bookings made in store or for booking generally.

The classic "lets take something out of context"  no wonder why you didn't actually fully quote me.
For anyone you wants to read my post I was giving an example  of why a person might end up  thinking "up to 20%" isn't a great deal.
As it's not my style to desperately point score,  for that  reason I'm out.
