    I think if you don't pay the balance of your deposit on the due date, TUI will consider you have cancelled your booking.
    From TUI website:
    We appreciate that you may be feeling apprehensive about paying your balance. Unfortunately, if you don’t continue with payments your holiday will be cancelled. If you booked in a TUI store you can call 0800 009 3836 or 0203 636 1997 between 9am and 5.30pm from Monday to Friday as we have Travel Advisors working who are able to help you.

    Call the holiday Product A

     

    A company offers Product A that costs £2000 to be delivered on 31st Dec

    They offer first payment of £1000 when buying, then a second payment on 1st July also £1000

     

    A thousand people buy Product and pay £1000 so the company has one million pounds

    Only 500 pay the balance and the others are told that money is lost.

    So the company now have a million and a half pounds.

     

    Come nearer the date, the company says sorry Product A can’t be delivered, so will refund the 500 £2000.

    But the company still has the half a million from the 500 people who didn’t continue to pay.

     

    So the company although failing to deliver the product makes 500,000 pounds

    This IMHO wouldn’t be considered fair.

  • I've got a holiday booked for late August, so a long way to go, but I've got to pay the balance in June. Currently, if the worst happens and the holiday is cancelled, I booked it before Coronavirus so would be covered by my travel insurance.  My question is; were I then to accept a voucher in lieu of a refund and then subsequently I used this to book a holiday that is in turn cancelled due to this same issue (none of us know if this will go away anytime soon), have I now booked after the event and thus am no longer covered by my travel insurance?
    Apologies if this has already been asked.

    FYI:
    Travel firms have been warned against forcing travellers to pay large non-refundable deposits, or charging hefty cancellation fees, by the competition watchdog.

    I have no idea if anyone has challenged a holiday company and won.
    Or lost.

    I've not heard but wouldn't surprise me if holiday companies paid up before there is a court ruling to stop any precedents   being set.
    Also I'd much rather go for S75  and they look at what's fair, not only what's legal

  • I am due to pay my balance for my holiday to Sardinia on 25th July on 2nd May.  I have already paid £600 and have a balance of £1900 to pay.
    I am reluctant to pay the balance as do not want to wait forever for a refund.  I was thinking instead of amending the holiday to next year online.  How much would the administration fee be?  The holiday is for 3 people.

    Like many I have had a holiday with Tui cancelled. They are stating that you cant get a cash refund until they have offered you a credit note (3 to 4 weeks) and code then you have to ring in to claim a refund. Which will then take upto another 6 weeks ! to process. (and by the way the 20% discount they are offering for next year will just about cancel out the 23% price hike they are quoting for some rebookings next year
    Well despite the illegal aspects above, this is how i got my refund two weeks before my travel date.
    1 - couldn't get through on std lines so phoned head office instead and selected payments (yes payments) from auto system - someone answered within minutes ! 
    2 I requested a refund and the operator said they would fill in a refund form and get it to correct dept in Tui and that i would receive a call in next 7 to 10 days. 
    3 Well that is exactly what happened. 
    4 I also though took the precaution of writing (via signed for delivery) to Tui customer services at head office stating that a I reject any offer of a credit note and request a full refund and reminded them of the 14 day limit in the package travel regulations

  • I've got a holiday booked 27th June 2020. As it is at the minute TUI have cancelled all holidays upto the 11th June 2020. I have received the letter from the government telling me to stay in for 12 weeks cos I'm vulnerable. This takes me up to the end of June which means I can't go on my holiday. Where do I stand? Especially if TUI don't cancel my holiday

    They will cancel it , nobody will be going on holiday in June or July.

    Then they will refund

    Could I please ask for Some advice...I’m due to pay my 3200 balance for a holiday in July 2020 (£800 deposit was paid last October) if I pay £200 amendment fee for a cheaper holiday in June 2020, would I still be entitled to a full refund if (when) the amended holiday is cancelled? 
    I have no insurance-my thinking is that although I will lose a £200 amendment fee it seems a better option than cancelling and loosing my £800 deposit/chasing them for £2000 instead of £4000.
