TUI refunds thread

I don’t understand why anyone is waiting around and complaining on social media, Tui are acting illegally treating thousands of customers’ payments like interest-free loans, they are a disgrace. I’ve sent them a letter before claim today telling them a ‘refund credit’ (which isn’t a refund) is unacceptable and if the full cost of my holiday isn’t in my bank account within 14 days I’ll lodge a court claim. Why should I waste hours of my time trying to get through on their phone lines to ‘apply’ for a refund that may never materialise? I don’t trust them one bit.
Yes, go and clog up the court system why don't you!  Court proceedings have ground to a halt, due to the fact that, you know, the social distancing and work from home directive applies to everyone - including staff who work within the courts system.  Funnily enough, it applies to TUI staff as well, hence why at a time when their customer services department have more cases to deal with than at any time in their long history, they have a severely reduced capapcity with which to deal with them.

Why do you think a refund "might not materialise?"  TUI have never said that.
Of course they haven’t said that, it wouldn’t be in their interests to say that! But they have said they would do a lot of things that they haven’t,  like telephoning customers whose holidays have been cancelled, and processing refunds that they have already agreed to - many people were told they would receive money back within 7-10 days, and weeks later it still hasn’t materialised. Not exactly a great track record so far. Other travel companies like Jet2 are proactively reaching out to customers and issuing refunds promptly, despite being in the same boat in terms of having ‘severely reduced capacity.’
  • I have booked an all inclusive holiday back  in February and have paid deposit only. Holiday with TUi and is not till end of September. I now wish to cancel; can I simple cancel and lose deposit only.

Yes.  However if you've only paid a low deposit (£50pp), you will owe them the rest of the deposit (+ £150pp) even if you want to cancel.

You might owe it to them, but they owe people cash refunds and are failing to deliver.
What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
They ripped up their terms and conditions so I don't think anyone should feel reticent about doing the same.

We booked our package holiday with TUI, but its a bespoke holiday so they use Funway to book it though. Does that mean we are still bound by the new TUI T&C (20% incentive, refund on request), or is it up to Funway what happens?

bagand96 is simply stating what's in the T&Cs - that if you've paid a low deposit and cancel then the balance of the deposit will also be due.
It's up to that poster whether they want to cancel and lose their deposit but they do need to understand that TUI could seek to recover that deposit balance.
The fact that TUI have not behaved as people expected and have not issued refunds in the timescales people expected does not alter the above and ahunter1 needs to be aware of it.

I think you might possibly be a little muddled with what you have booked.  Could it be a package trip operated by Funway Holidays but booked in a TUI shop?

The 20% incentive is for TUI package holidays only.

Sorry i edited my post to make it more clear. Yes it was booked in a TUI store, but the package holiday is operated and booked through Funway.

I now understand we wont get the 20% incentive for the same holiday, but are we still bound by TUI T&C or Funway? Id like to ask for a full refund which TUI announced online people can do once they get their refund email
