So many people failing at basic reading comprehension.

From my point of view, the circumstances aren't great - but they are what they are. Noone could have predicted this - including the travel companies. Hopefully, in the future once all the dust is settled, they will have learned from this and ensure adequate financial reserves are kept in place to cover all future bookings. But, unfortunately, that is not the case currently. It is what it is.

I have a holiday booked with TUI on 26th June 2020. I paid the outstanding balance (by Credit Card) at the start of this month. I m still hopeful that the holiday will go ahead, albeit I know the odds are against it. In the event it doesn't - I'll be very tempted to take the Refund Credit with its additional 20% Incentive, since we will still want to go on holiday next year & generally do travel with TUI. Either way - it sounds like once you have the Refund Credit Note, you can phone and arrange for a refund at any time after receiving it - and after 12months, if unused, you will get a refund. That doesn't sound too bad given the unique circumstances....

So we've established that if you don't want a 'refund credit' you can ask for the cash back 4 weeks from your original scheduled departure date. We don't currently know how long these cash refunds are going to take however, and if it's anything like the current wait it could be a while. So, would a Section 75 claim be quicker?

My personal circumstances are: holiday to Mexico (4/4/2020) cancelled on the 17th March after my partner got through, refund requested but to this date not yet received. (We are hoping that in light of yesterday's announcement, refunds for holidays up to the 16th April may actually begin to happen.)Holiday was paid with a debit card.
Second holiday to Turkey (31/7/2020) paid with a credit card £3500 with a further £2k due 8/5/20. We expect this to be cancelled also and are reluctant to book again so once I've paid this balance and it's cancelled I'm tempted to start a Section 75 claim via Barclaycard - never done this before or know anything about the process.

No bank is going to entertain a Section 75 claim when a) TUI are still trading, and b) TUI have a clear as crystal message on their website saying people can convert vouchers to cash.

People may get told they have a claim but this will be by call centre staff either being polite or not knowing the full story

We were suppose to be going to Orlando on the 7th June. We didn’t mind changing it to the same time next year. One big problem, we paid £2087 for the original holiday next year they want £2779 for the same holiday.
We are not going to pay that much extra, so will be after a refund when we get the vouchers.

The extra 20% will make up almost all that difference anyway

Wait for them to cancel it, 4 weeks later you should get a Refund Credit Note & with it the 20% Incentive, which should cover the majority of it!

Suppise it depends if you can find it cheaper than £2500 elsewhere.

Also holidays go up every year anyway, if it was £300 more I'd say that's probably about right. I'd pay that.

A link that was on Twitter: https://www.travelweekly.co.uk/articles/368171/advice-at-a-glance-guides-to-refund-credit-notes-and-chargebacks

Bottom of the page links have info for travel agents regarding customers who might be considering Section 75.  Perhaps a bit more to the "you'll have a refund credit note & we'll talk about it later"!  Seems that may mean a Section 75 faills before it's even begun.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
