    I've just got a phone call that I've completed! The solicitors said that any removal company already booked should go ahead.
    congratulations x

    Our vendors removal company have told him that they can only work if people have exchanged. So he is trying to get that sorted. Annoying as from the looks of it, many solicitors advising to E&C on same day to protect buyers from contract breaches.
    Apart from that, solicitor and EA have advised everything still good to go on Thursday! So fingers crossed we can get something sorted with his furniture.
  • Took a call from our removal company to say they cancelling. We are due to complete on the 3rd April.
    Spoke to my solicitor he told me to get in touch with estate agents and ask for buyers/sellers details... shambles

    If you want to complete, then there are removals companies that are working for specifically your scenario, you can try asking the BAR for recommendations.

    If you don't then your solicitors are probably best placed to negotiate an extension to completion. But do make sure any extension won't put you past your mortgage offer expiry date, and for this reason, I also wouldn't accept any additional get-out clauses related to COVID either.

    Anyone struggling with movers try https://www.shiply.com/ we used to find a company to move our plants when we moved in December
  • Crikey. So many people in the midst of transactions! So are we!
     We finally concluded missives on our house 2 weeks ago. It had been on market for 3 years! Date of entry is early April, and we are having to remove ourselves and now live over 70 miles and a ferry journey away. Just unloading van today from yesterday's journey.  Need to return for the last load tomorrow and no idea if we will be allowed on the ferry or not. We intend to drive to old house, load up and drive back.
    Government says stay at home and Essential travel only. But who can decide  how essential is this  travel?
    Have solicitors been given any guidance in what to do in this situation where we are legally obliged to complete but may not be able to empty the house in time?

    The removal company we booked was BAR accredited and advised by BAR to seize trading and i was told this is the case for all removal companies BAR accredited?

    Do you know of any specific removal companies still operating?
  • he PM’s latest briefing on 23rd March with regards to the developing crisis arising from the global coronavirus pandemic was absolutely clear, and in a nutshell the day to day life of the UK is now formally suspended for a period of at least 3 weeks. The question then arises as to what should happen with any moves that are either underway or booked to take place, and the recommendation of the BAR to its Members has been equally as clear as that given by the PM, and that recommendation is as follows;

    The Member should only complete any moves that are underway and immediately cancel or postpone any move that has not yet started. It is evident that our collective and absolute priority now must be on ensuring the safety of the staff and customers of our Members, and of course their respective families, and so all parties must now make every immediate effort to remove the risk for mover and consumer alike at the very earliest opportunity. There will of course be many more questions asked and answers needing to be given over the next few days, but it is imperative that we react now to that very explicit instruction from the PM and we strongly encourage everyone to comply with the instructions issued by the PM, and the subsequent recommendation made by the BAR, and to keep safe and well.

  • Congrats for those that have made it to completion. We are due to exchange/complete on Friday. We have heard nothing from either our EA or solicitor. I am so stressed. We have things boxed up, mail redirection in place from Saturday and a van booked. Thankfully we didn't book removals so could still move, and think we are far enough down the process to warrant us completing, but we have no idea what position the buyers are in. Sleepless nights are really getting to me now :neutral:
  • We have been told by our solicitor that all is going ahead exchange and complete same day Friday, removal people text this morning to say they will be with us tomorrow and all our stuff is going into storage, we wait we are very anxious because if anything goes wrong Thursday or Friday we are left in our house with no furniture,we did contemplate cancelling but we have already been stressed to the limit and think this would be far to much for my wife who is suffering from serious anxiety.
