  • I do some voluntary work in a local food bank on Fridays and have been pleasantly surprised by all the donations we've had from well-wishers. Sometimes people come in from the street and give us a donation of food or money. Today, an elderly gentleman who lives in the same road offered us his mobility scooter. He'd bought a new one and wanted us to sell it so we could use the money to buy more food for the food bank. We were also able to secure a grant of £500 which will help!  :)

Now Millwalll FC supporters don’t always have the best of reputations. What a fantastic act of kindness from this gentleman (who wanted no publicity) to pay for a season ticket for a young girl (Bristol Rovers supporter) who just lost her Dad to Coronavirus, and additionally a season ticket for her Uncle.

Have received so much kindness from my neighbours (in the words of one of my young nephews) am overcome with emulsion.
  • My housemate and I have started a 'Community Busy Box' where people can donate and borrow books, magazines, puzzles, games and dvds for free. I left a book specifically for a young man who lives around the corner, with a note, and a few days later his dad left me a lovely bundle of envelopes, cards and postcards. They'll come in handy when I write to care homes- I try to write to five a week at least. It's lovely to see them uploaded on Facebook, but even nicer to think that it might be cheering people up :)

Also proud to be an NHS Volunteer Responder with 500+ hours of volunteering and 3 calls from people that I now do weekly shop/prescription collection for :)

I hope people don’t mind me posting all this but I feel sad at the moment because one of the most popular residents told me yesterday her 84 year old sister had just died from Alzheimer’s (another cruel trick of nature) and she hadn’t been able to visit her for a while.  I wanted to hug her but we are following the 2m rule strictly.

This is one of the saddest things about coronavirus. The number of people who are dying having not seen any of their family and friends in weeks beforehand, and all the people that are losing a member of their family or a close friend and not being able to visit them and in many cases properly say goodbye at a funeral.

A couple of acts of kindness (big & small) from a couple of businesses. Drinks manufacturer Chivas Regal is donating hand sanitiser initially to social care providers and charities in close proximity to its sites, and aims to donate 5000 litres a week. I know of one local charity who were given 350 litres last week. They have also donated 100,000 litres of pure alcohol for use to make hand sanitiser for frontline NHS staff nationwide. While, on a smaller scale, Arran Aromatics made up small "thank you" packs to donate to staff a social care charity.

The Mosque near where I live did a gift box with fruit, vegetables, biscuits, drinks and other food items yesterday.  It came as a complete surprise and was a lovely gesture.  Bless their souls for the random act of generosity.  I know there are quite a few elderly people in the neighbourhood, so it will be a nice surprise for them.

There was also a leaflet offering help for people with financial difficulties, and dropping off anti bacterial wipes and hand wash / sanitiser if people were in need.

    Stay safe everyone.

My local councillor rang me to check I was OK and if I needed any thing.

Admiral insurance have contacted me with some changes to my insurance and breakdown policy because of my situation as a key worker, making it much easier for me to stay on the road and get to work should anything untoward happen to my car.  I don’t know if other insurers/breakdown firms have done the same but I was really impressed.
They've also given a blanket £25 rebate to all current car insurance customers. Not life-changing money but unsolicited and I can't fail to be impressed. Just need to figure out how to put that money to best use to help someone else, as while of course I'm not going to suggest that they give the money to their shareholders instead, I'm in a good place financially and don't feel right pocketing it.
    I haven’t had that yet.

if it does arrive I think I’ll send it to Refuge.

Had a wonderful ve celebration with a few neighbours. We had such a good laugh and had great fun. I'm so lucky to have neighbours who arent afraid to let their hair down . It was very uplifting what we all needed.
