Yeah I was thinking that, might even be a case for a heat pump.
Do take a look at heat pumps and share your view please! I looked up at my end and ignoring RHI for the moment it'd cost £9 vs £2 to heat our home a day.
I'd like to see your calculations for that, and understand where the £9 comes from.
With mains gas at 4p/kWh, £2 would buy you 50kWh of gas. Burning that in a 90% efficient boiler will yield 45kWh of heat.
Obtaining the same 45kWh of heat from a 300% efficient heat pump would take 15kWh of electricity. At 21p/kWh that would cost £3.15.

Your math does make more sense. I was basing my figure on another forum with someone who had installed a heat pump and was reporting on last month of use, and had a very very similar epc to me. They mentioned that for November their average usage of the heat pump over the month was 2.5kw. I simply did 2.5 * 24h to get kWh, then *.15p =£9.

Even with your math though, the economics of having an ashp Vs a gas boiler just don't work...

Agreed, mains gas is currently too cheap in comparison to mains electricity.
The comparison with oil or LPG is more favourable but next April's gas price rise might reverse that!

  • Have purchased a new fridge freezer since Storm Arwen shorted mine. No idea age of old one as it was left behind in a house move but the difference in battery and grid usage is amazing.  Now when it cools is winds up to full power so battery gets chances to catch up rather than the grid getting a surge.

Doesn’t save the money needed for the new appliance but I did need it

Not great, on the one hand. But helps with the case for more batteries on the other. 🙂

Wow quite a rise... but with my current usage pattern will not massively affect me..... less than £50 a year, what is the standing charge?

Actually fractionally lower for us ...... https://octopus.energy/go/rates/

24.86p a day here versus 25p at the moment.

    24.38p standing charge.

Yeah good for batteries,  not ideal for my plan of removing the gas boiler this year.

Not for me 30.6 and 7.5... plus the times quoted would not be as beneficial for me as my existing deal
