Because I'm having an air source heat pump installed soon I will have to find a new way to house my 8 pylontech 2000's. I currently have them on their side (no brackets) along the bottom of the airing cupboard floor but some of this space will be needed for the new hot water tank.
There will be space in the airing cupboard to stack them using brackets but 8 batteries is a lot of weight so I wondered if I could make two stacks of four instead and use a long cable to join them.
Would this be OK - or can anyone suggest an alternative please?

2 stack of 4 perfectly fine with a set of long cables (acting in place of the small ones you use at present to link battery 4 and 5). You'll also need longer network cables again to link battery 4 to 5.

Thank you!  I was hoping that that would be OK but wasn't sure whether it was OK to use long cables from 4 to 5.

Yes they are generally called battery link cables, I have them on my installation approx 80cm to 1m 👍🏻. For pylons you should easily find said cables for £25-£30.

Aren't they designed for a.19" rack cabinet? Can you pick a used one one up locally, then rack all eight on that?
Last time I looked, used  19" cabinets were almost free as no-one really wants them...

I've got 4 x US5000s in a 19" rack, but it would take 5. The big benefit is that it protects the batteries and connections, which is of benefit as they are in the garage. I was worried about heat, but the battery stack runs stone cold.

Am I right that I'd need a 16u rack to take 8 pylontechs?
The ones I've seen look a bit flimsy to take 8 batteries.

I have a good sturdy rack ( was not a budget rack ) 18u high 600x600 to give plenty of room for cooling and handles still mounted and doors front and back.
Owing  to weight of batteries I fabricated fixed supports from 40x40mm rt angle aluminium cut to fit about 450mm deep fixed front and back. Much cheaper than dedicated shelves!
Wheels on rack to move easily.

I fitted 3x 3000s and two 2000s but with space between batteries again for cooling so about 4u each 3000 and 3u each 2000. Possibly overkill in that respect.

I would not like to remove the extra support and would estimate that 8x2000s would fit into an 18u rack in that case.

Longer rack to Inverter cables enable movement and top and bottom connections of power.

    Hope that helps.

The batteries locate perfectly well at the front in the standard 19" mounts. At the rear, you can support the batteries by installing a threaded bar across the back between the standard holes in the rack, with a couple of nuts and washers each side to secure it. Easily available in 2M lengths on ebay. The battery just sits on it.
The cabinet I bought was the Lande Proline 16U. I took the castors off, but my brother has the same and says the castors are fine.

Did that house 8 batteries OK?
