  • So I emailed lux in china and within 10 minutes the fault has reset and system back to normal. Superb support from the team at Lux, wish I'd done it earlier in the day !

I don't recall anyone with Fogstar batts, though.

I didn't know about them until a few days ago. They've got a new one coming out in a month or two, 15kWh for £2500. That's going to shake things up a bit.

Hi, I haven't posted here for a while, but used to be fairly regular.
I've had 9 Pylontechs for around 4-5 years, over 2 lux inverters but very recently, seen the fogstar (seplos) deal of 15.2kwh of envision grade B cells for £2k (self build) and decided to move over.
The 15kwh for £2.5k seems to be almost the same, but already built.

I guess the first thing to say is if you thought pv pro /infinity/homeswitch were poor for contact after sale, fogstar are even worse.
Since its self assembly, the instructions are pretty awful, but if you are buying ready made, you won't have to worry about that.

I had to make a new communication lead between the lux and the batteries as the CAN port pinout was different,  however another forum user has reported the latest version of bms worked with his old pylontech cable with no issues.

I've went for 4 sets of batteries as I'm going for self use over roi, and to limit my input to charging schedules. (Been "playing" for over 5 years, now I just want to them to work without my input)

They are individual 3.2v cells packed in a 16 series configuration,  so if you take the front off, you can unpack the individual batteries at around 5.5kg each, and lift just the case which is around 20 ish I'd say, which is how I got all of mine up to the loft.
This is what the cells look like, id bolted them together to equalise the individual cells before assembling.

Now I need to sell my 9 pylontechs

So thanks to some tips and advice from Solarchaser, I also now have a Seplos Mason 14.3kwh diy kit up and running.
The trickiest part of the build was connecting up the BMS due to the pretty poor instruction manual but I got there with some help from SC and a couple of guys on a Facebook group.
It's been working smoothly for a couple of weeks now with my Lux ACS3600 which isn't listed as supported by the BMS but works fine with the original Lux CAN cable.

  • Hi,

I'm thinking of swapping my Uhome batteries for some PylonTech US5000, I've read through and it looks like a fairly simple process, balancing the new, removing the old and then changing the battery type on the inverter to pylontech (3).

Is there anything else to be aware of, data cable differences, tricks / tips, or is it as simple as it seems?

    Thanks ...
  • @piman72 keep me in mind when you go to sell off them . How old are they

I did exactly this about 2 year ago, my original install had two 2.4kWh batteries for a 4.8kWh storage but I wanted more capacity so asked my installer for another set and they where asking for nearly £3k at the time and there was literally no where else to source them. I felt they where totally monopolising the market so decided to sell my nearly year old UHomes to another person that had a set so it would just simply expand their storage and I then purchased 17kWh of Plyontech storage for only about 1800 more after the receiving the money for the sold UHomes. For setup it really is easy and literally just set your inverter to recognise Plyontech and then make sure the biggest and newest battery is the first battery in line. I didnt even have to balance or anything they all just sorted themselves out. You will need to get the right leads for going from the Pylontech to the inverter though so make sure you have that ordered at the same time. Good luck

  • Thanks Starfrog - very reassuring, the Fogstar batteries are now tempting me, seemingly another easy swap.

What size Plyontech did you go for?

Will do, they are 2 years old, 'normal usage' can answer any questions you have.  Where are you in the country?

    Hi All
does anyone know if there is a planned upgrade to the Lux/Octopus Agile varient of their web portal?  Its looking a bit primative now in that the selection of half hour slots etc. is a bit rigid
