The rest of the kids are truly shocked by how quickly their brother caught it and have stepped up plans to isolate themselves. My darling daughter is posting beautiful videos every day of my grandson doing nothing remotely interesting but in a totally captivating manner❤️I didn’t realise it was Mothering Sunday this weekend but As soon as I did, I shared my Amazon Wish List which consisted of two books for my virtual bookclub, a container gardening book for my sanity and patio, and the most beautiful tricolour Budlieia that I fell in love wit4

Perhaps you misunderstood me....my neighbour is a lot younger than me.Pollycat said:Slinky said:Pollycat said:TBH, I think it's the older people who are willfully disregarding the advice about social distancing who need convincing more than the younger ones.
Trying to convince my near 90 MIL that she needs to avoid contact with others seems to go over her head. She said her recent blood test results her doctor said she was very good for her age.......... but then that's relative isn't it?! I think it doesn't really register that this is serious despite my OH saying it's a life and death issue. The only saving grace is that her knees hurt her so badly she can't walk very far.
Well, there we go.Pyxis said:
I have just had a row with my lovely neighbour whom in over ten years I have never had a cross word with.Pollycat said:TBH, I think it's the older people who are willfully disregarding the advice about social distancing who need convincing more than the younger ones.
I won’t go into too many details, but she is a lot younger than me, and despite being in a vulnerable group has been going out and about, into shops and with groups of people, despite me gently suggesting this isn’t a good idea. She only has 4 days worth of food supplies, but poo-poos the idea of starting to get food delivered.
The last straw was when she said she wasn’t changing her plans to go to London this weekend to see her mum on mother’s day, despite the directive of No Unnecessary Travel. ( Her mum won’t be alone, by the way).
I’m afraid I got angry. It’s the first time we’ve ever had words, and I’m quite upset that someone who is as intelligent as she is doesn't see the enormity of this.
Let's not point the finger at just the young people.I did understand that. The point I was making - after you posted this:Pyxis said:Very strongly worded advice this morning that just because someone is younger, it doesn’t mean that they automatically won’t become very ill if they catch this, so very much a question of social distancing applying to EVERYONE.
The message is for those younger people to stop being complacent and to stop congregating in bars, pubs and restaurants, etc.
It couldn’t have been more plain.
was that it's all ages that are not taking notice of the social distancing.

I couldn't, because my job requires me to attend.
However, having a car means I can travel there and back, door to door, thereby avoiding contact with the general public.5 -
Great thread. I'm hoping though by now it's 'how will you comply'. So this is one of the ways we're complying. Mum is now social distancing due to age. A relatively new tea room, realising that sit in is no longer an option, is offering mothers' day afternoon tea to collect. So today I ordered two to pick up after the online church service on Sunday. I'll take one to mum's, bring the other here to share with dd2, and we'll facetime mum. I have invited dd1 (rotterdam) and ds (aberdeen) to virtually join us.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Well, here we are on day 9 of the shut in, the first few were emotionally challenging and it took a while to remove the 'prison' feeling and start to see the house as 'the safe place'. We're still running on the fresh stuff from the fridge and I'm scrupulous about using things in least long date order and signs of going off for the veg. We've started just having 2 meals a day to make what we have go further and because we're definitely not as active as usual. We are still being very, very careful when going for a walk every day and will continue to do so as long as we're allowed, we live quite close to the edge of the village and can get to the open country fairly quickly. What's helping enormously is video calls from both daughters and the grandpickles every day and also alternating with the other grandparents and reading them a bedtime story every other night. I think it probably does more for us than the children but makes us feel part of the family set up still.
What things are you doing that bring the family in to the home and your life even though they're in their own homes and perhaps far away? could you share what you're doing as it might help in some way to counteract the loneliness and isolation feelings that come occasionally no matter how much you know that social distancing is saving your life?
