I've been locked up for nearly two weeks now, and still have a fever, so clearly shouldn't be going out. I also want to keep isolated for another week or so until I'm sure I won't have germs, and then go and see my mum. After that, I'll assume I'm immune (although the antibody test would be great for confirmation), and also not at risk of passing it on. I'll still minimise my contact with other human beings. But until then, no shops. Unfortunately there are no online slots available for either deliver or click and collect locally at the moment. That's what's going to make it difficult for people to comply.
So later today I need to do a detailed inventory and work out not just what I can eat each day (meat/fish aren't a concern, but veg is looking a little low) but also how I can make the odd treat.
I'm due to see the dentist in a month to have a bone graft, after which I'll be on a liquid diet for several weeks I suspect. And probably won't feel up to much immediately afterwards. So I need to make sure I have suitable food available to get decent nutrition to support healing.
I'm managing my veg very carefully, waste is minimal, but I hate not knowing what will be in my veg box and the fact that there will be less veg and more fruit (which I'm not that interested in) from now on.6 -
Greenbee - It makes no sense. Asking people to self isolate but no real provision has been made for how people can get food. My parents (so far) have managed to get supermarket deliveries. For OH's parents I managed to get one delivery (but the first one was not for 2 weeks - the first supermarket I tried had nothing at all) but at the moment there are no deliveries showing on the website at all. How people who do not have internet or do not have the money to buy the minimum amount required for a delivery I don't know - and then there is the problem getting delivery slots, same with trying to get milk delivered as the milk rounds are not taking new customers etc. The low cost staples are mostly out of stock so people on low incomes are now struggling to buy enough food for normal consumption. The government seem to be relying on the supermarkets, food suppliers and public to try and sort out the mess. Both my experience and that of a friend is that staff have gone above and beyond to help me get deliveries sorted out but what about the people who don't have anyone to sort it out for them. My friend is ordering with 2 of her friends as it is the only way they can meet the minimum order charge.

Does anyone have any alternative ideas about this or any ideas to make the isolation sightly less tedious or other interesting ways of maintaining contact rather than just regular phone calls. Any advice would be much appreciated. If you can get them a tablet you can do Skype and have the kindle reader on there, set up an account at amazon and buy some books there or if you have prime, you can buy them for her and they'll show up on her kindle...one tablet does a few jobs...kindle also do free books with prime, and she can increase or decrease the font size easily...fire tablets are comparatively cheap...

I'm trying hard to comply with social distancing but there does seem to be a lot of of confusion and many mixed messages. Many people are implying that social distancing and social isolation are synonymous. They're not. I'm social distancing so I'm going out every day for a walk or for a drive and a walk. I'm doing this for fresh air and exercise. We've seen people while we're out and called a cheery greeting... from a distance. We're also going out weekly for food shopping. Tomorrow I plan to see my DD for a brief visit. We'll sit opposite each other on our sofas (2m apart). I really can't see how seeing my DD or meeting a friend in the open air (as I did yesterday by accident when I was doing my food shop locally ) is any different from coming into contact (not literally) with the checkout person in the supermarket.
Unless government guidelines change and we're all required to socially isolate (and provision is made for food deliveries) then that's how I'm translating social distancing.6
