Surely the owners of this site (the MoneySuperMarket Group) could find a way to make money out of purchasing the website and other related assets from Mysupermarket Ltd?

I'm guessing they sold on their price data to other companies, despite the subscription-free model for consumers, and I'm also guessing that MoneySuperMarket Group could, with its knowledge and resources, find a way to monetise the purchase.

Give us all a nice surprise, MoneySuperMarket - add it to your armoury.  And ours.  It was the only simple and quick way to check the price of a product across all the main supermarkets.  Shopping will never be as simple again.
i think you mean Moneysavingexpert!!! lol ;)
No - I mean the MoneySuperMarket Group, because they own this moneysavingexpert website.   :)
  • This is a fiscal family disaster :(
Used this site on a weekly basis - as in other comments, I would have happily paid a monthly subscription to access the site. Why on earth didn't they ask if people would be prepared to pay for access? Please seriously consider purchasing the site, Martin ....

For nappies you can use bumdeal.co.uk which seems quite decent.

I never received any email and was shocked to find mysupermarket was closed.
Using mysupermarket has saved me loads since I first discovered it.
Can not find an alternative to it.
    Hopefully it can be saved.
Can't help thinking they were pushed in to suddenly closing down like that.
I have been comparing prices between Sainsbury's and Tesco's.
Seems the only alternative is to join the mass exoduses from those's shops and go to Aldi instead.
If they were pushed into closing down the ones that did the pushing may be the looser's.

Martin Lewis, My message to you.
Mysupermarket could be the flagship of MoneySavingExpert and bring in tens of millions of new people to the site.
I think mysupermarket has saved people huge amounts of money and fits perfectly with the ideology of MoneySavingExpert.
Why not at least investigate the possibility that you could save Mysupermarket.

Very sad that mysupermarket has closed down but if you look at the number of downloads of the app, it was inevitable. It didn't seem to gain enough traction. They didn't make it to 1 million downloads.
  • Does anyone know a good groceries price comparison site now that mysupermarket has closed? thank you

Have a look at Comparasaurus app on the Play Store. Seems to be the only alternative at present. OK the search function is basic and takes a few seconds to load the results but it does work with a little patience. Let's get behind them, with a little development we may have a worthy alternative
It seems Comparasaurus was probably using data from MySupermarket. It now says "no products" for any search term ( even "beans"), for every supermarket.

I tried it too and found exactly the same thing!
  • I have been thinking about this as I'm a developer. I can make a price comparison app that runs on my machine. The problems start to come when it comes to making it available to others. Not sure what MSM was using to get their data, but the T&C's of the respective stores' websites generally prohibit distribution of their data for non-personal use. So either the methods of data collection were not entirely in the clear or they had some backdoor agreement with the stores to get the data, which I imagine would cost money.
And then there are costs associated with hosting a website, the database, and also the data protection issues if you want features like price drop notifications.

So I'm not seeing any problems on the technical side, only on the legal side, and the fact that it costs money to run to host it while it's clearly not something you would want to ask money from users to use it.
