  • Absolutely devastated about My Supermarket. The money I have saved over the years from this little app. I would gladly pay monthly to get this back!

    Shopping as I know it has just come to the end, it's only now I see how much that site did for me.
    Someone please save it for the nation.
    You don't know what you got till it's gone!!!
    I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
    The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
    There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
    I listen all night for your step on the stair.

    Thanks, sounds interesting. I think my favourite feature of Mysupermarket was the ability to monitor favourite products and get an email alert when those products went on special offer (although annoyingly it didn't allow you to select which supermarkets you wanted to hear about). Not sure if SmartList has this feature, but if not, please consider adding it!

    Smartlist, Good luck and best wishes.
    My gut feeling is, it is probably the supermarkets themselves that do not want websites like mysupermarket.co.uk in operation becuase it will cause a deterrent effect on weekly or bi-weekly regular shoppers seeing sometimes price difference of 100%. So clearly, it appears like they have formed a cartel and made it difficult for mysupermarket.co.uk to source their weekly changing pricelists in bulk (one of the disadvantages of capitalism!)
    My suggestion is, why not you you make the Smartlist service public contributed, for e.g run it like petrolprices.com
    For e.g in my case, I used MSM for checking prices for:
    - Whisky & Spiritis (top saver for me!)
    - Shaving gels & razors
    - Crisps & chocolates (especially when buying in bulk for parties/events)
    - Premium drinks (like squashes - again for event/parties)
    - cereals & frozen items like ice creams (probably less savings here)
    And I am happy to contribute if there is an app everytime I see a heavy discount on items under the above categories..

  • I always imagined that mysupermarket did a screenscrape search of products.  Did they get charged for that?  Or did the supermarkets keep changing the way data could be searched so that the screen scraping had to be re-coded regularly?
    p.s. - I am not a developer, so I don't know if I am describing my ideas correctly.

    I am so so disappointed, I save so much every week with this app.  I am one of those people who doesn't like paying for apps but I would pay for this app because of the amount it saves me.

    Hello, I've just joined the forum as I am devastated to lose My Supermarket and wanted to join the rest of you mourning its demise! I used it several times a week to check where I could get what I needed for the best price.
  • Gutted!  I did not receive their email, and have only just found out by trying to log in to the site. I have used mysupermarket.co.uk since it started, and it has saved me a considerable sum over the years.  Even when I wasn't doing a shop online, I still used the site to print out my shopping list in a logical order for plodding round my local Tesco.
  • MySupermarket is up for grabs. I just found this in the Privacy section of the announcement;
    Lets hope somebody sees this and seizes the opportunity 🙏🏻

    My understanding was,  the aggregated price-lists based on EAN13/GTIN13 (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Article_Number ) codes, so they can report the price variation accurately.

    As you said, Screen-srcapping teschnology is possible too, but not sure about its legal implications also. not all supermarkets does all products online (for e.g ALDI & LIDL)?
