Haha, so the last thing I want to do is open the local debate on GM vs Cheshire vs Lancashire!
I suppose what I was asking was - has anyone living in what was historically Lancashire but administratively GM (or similar situations elsewhere - Saddleworth, North Lincs?) had any luck?
I have sent them an email.1 -
I'll be very near to Penrith for a few weeks from tomorrow......do you think they will open me an account with a temporary address ?0

They will ask for standard proof of ID. Utility bills and driving license with your name and address.subjecttocontract said:I'll be very near to Penrith for a few weeks from tomorrow......do you think they will open me an account with a temporary address ?0 -
Need a smiley or someone might think it's a real question.....subjecttocontract said:I'll be very near to Penrith for a few weeks from tomorrow......do you think they will open me an account with a temporary address ?

It appears that some on here are confusing the idea of a current administrative district with county, historic or otherwise. But I'm not getting into further debate, if @dlevene needs a definitive answer on the question posed, the simplest thing is to try for the account. If others suggest phoning, fine, but you'll still need to send the application off if they say "yes" anyway.
Hopefully some people will get out of bed on a different side tomorrow morning

That gap has just disappeared - easy access rates have just hit 5% (Tandem) and presumably others will follow soon.Kaizen917 said:Im a bit baffled to see the gap between instant and RS so narrow now. A rate around 5% is hardly worth it by this point.
Having a fixed regular saver could be advantageous once easy access rates start to drop but, with another small rise or two predicted for this year, the rate may need to be closer to 6% than 5% to benefit in that way, I would imagine.1 -
No luck unfortunately. Unsurprising if a bit annoying!dlevene said:Re. Penrith BS, is there any detailed information about what "Heartland" areas are eligible to open accounts; maybe a list of postcodes? Want to know if "Lancashire" might cover the ceremonial county, ie. include Manchester....
It does seem like the RS market is pretty weak at the moment. I've got £400/month that needs a home - given that EA has just hit 5%, there's nowhere for it to go.3 -
RBS/Natwest 6% reg savers maxed out with 5k each? You could try some additional transactions with the various methods discussed a million times over here to get extra round ups to fill them up.dlevene said:

Awful lot of hassle. Crossing my fingers that Tandem's jump in the EA market will have a knock-on effect for RS's and ISAs...0

I've given up paying any more into any regular saver paying under 5.75% for now. If you are looking at a Cash ISA instead how about the Shawbrook 1 yr at 5.71%. You can keep on paying in but it needs £1k min. Rates could go higher of course (or not).dlevene said:Awful lot of hassle.
