I maintained the RS Locals as it has no restrictions on the number of withdrawals, though I had forgotten when I wanted to move a fair chunk out the daily limit is £5kOneUser1 said:
The current Regular Saver rises from 3.85% to 4.1% on 1/9/23 but those of us (stealth brag?) in the NLA Regular Saver Locals rise from 4.25% up to 4.5%. Still nowhere near class leading but every little helps.Bridlington1 said:I appreciate it's a poor rate but for those who have it Buckinghamshire regular saver will rise to 4.1% from 1/9/23.0 -
@Bridlington1 apologies my comment was related to the post above yours; two posts appeared while I was typing and getting the source link. Now edited for clarity.1

By way of a timely coincidence a recent issue of my local paper carries an article with the headline "Stockport is named Greater Manchester's Town of Culture'. The SK postcode covers a wide area with some of them (the Heatons in particular) abutting Manchester suburbs.
Liverpool/Merseyside is in the same situation as Manchester/Greater Manchester and it would be unusual for Merseyside to be acceptable and GM not, with Merseyside situated in the depths of Lancashire and Manchester on the perimeter.
I was born in Manchester (pre GM) and consider myself very much a Lancashire lad. Lancashire's county cricket side plays in Manchester. Disregarding the technicalities most people off the cuff would regard Liverpool and Manchester as being in Lancashire.
It depends how strict Penrith are but I think it's worth a punt. I'm SK and will report back.
Good luck with your Penrith application. It's perverse that someone over 160 miles away on the far side of East Yorkshire can get the account but someone on the edge of Southport in Merseyside only 83 miles from Penrith, or someone on the edge of Bolton In Greater Manchester only 86 miles away, can't.
expect that happybagger will be along in a minute to tell me I'm confused and have got out of the wrong side of the bed, like he did yesterday.

I Live In Greater Manchester too, in Bury. A few years ago Marsden BS had a good Reg Saver with an opening restriction to "locals". I went to the now-closed branch in Bury town centre, less than three miles away, with an application form and ID to open it. They refused me, because I didn't live in "Bury proper" - whatever that is.
Half of the Bury has BL (Bolton) postcodes and Bury as the post town, and the other half has M (Manchester) postcodes. I'd taken my Bury Council tax demand as proof of residence, but since an M postcode wasn't "Bury proper" I was refused the account.
I worked in Burnley at the time and went into the Marsden branch there. They took one look at my Bury Council tax bill and opened the account because I was local, living in Bury. Marsden now clearly state that they accept M postcodes - but sadly the regular saver's rotten now!
As @IanManc said in his last post - cIearly on topic for anyone who is confused - the Penrith's rules seem a bit daft, so maybe if you're refused Penrith BS is small enough for you to be able to talk to the person who sets the geographical criteria and explain the silly consequences of their loose definition, and then they might let you have the account. Just an idea ....
Best of luck to you @Schiff. Let us know what happens. I might be tempted myself if you're successful.1 -
Currently the Regular Saver 300 is available to existing members and the standard Easy Access is open to anyone in the UK. Perhaps try to open an EA and then, as an existing member, open the RS? Although if they get swamped they will close the loophole soon enough.bundoran said:

I can't see it mentioned anywhere but according to moneyfacts from 10/8/23:
Cumberland Regular Saver Issue 3 will pay 5.25%
Cumberland First Home Saver Issue 2 will pay 4.35%2 -
I'm the unfortunate soul responsible for kicking off the Penrith BS/Lancashire exchange. I do enjoy a bit of geography geekery although the tone has become a little unpleasant.
When I called to ask, I spoke to a young woman who didn't know and offered to call me back. I did explain the logic - that I was much closer to Penrith than someone in East Yorkshire - but when she called back she told me the senior manager had said no.
Others may have better luck. Opening an easy access to become an existing customer first is a good idea, and if I was inclined a letter might be worth it, but I'll probably just do a DD shuffle to get a Club Lloyds account.2 -
And for those thinking that's easy I'll just open a Penrith EA a/c first....
This account is available to Heartland residents or existing members of the Society and can be opened in branch or by post. (To be classed as an existing member you must have held either a savings account or a mortgage for at least the last 12 months.
Now that ones been put to bed let's hope we can get back to discussing some increased rates or even new RS as it's been a bit quiet on that front recently. The EA/RS gap is shrinking all the time. Maybe FD will soon have a 10% RS
