- They had no idea why I'd been sent an online message when there was no way I could access it
- They're overwhelmed with applications for the RS
- They are having lots of IT issues
- The only option was to reapply, which I did while they were on the phone. It failed at the first page.
It's been referred to IT to resolve, but there was "quite a backlog" of IT issues.Progressive building soc
My word it’s hard work, I applied last Saturday passed all ID checks got to the last screen and ‘Error’ please ring this number. Rang on Monday morning to be told I need to re-apply but state NO ID and this would flag up and someone would contact me so this is what I did. The codes to my email and phone took about 90 seconds to come through by the way. Two days later no call so I contacted them and to be fair phone answered quickly. I was then told my account was up and running and just needed to login, news to me. Anyway, I did this whilst on the phone and it worked, so I asked about issues with nominated bank account and said would Halifax or Santander be ok to use and was told both would work. Halifax did not work; I’ve had the account with them for 35 years fortunately Santander did work. I have tried to send a payment to the Progressive from my bank which does not acknowledge the info I put in but I proceeded and just sent £10 that was yesterday afternoon it has not yet turned up at the Progressive or been returned as yet watch this space.

Yesterday I had to close 2 RS for emergency funds. Phoned Saffron and full amount was in my current account by mid-afternoon. Whereas Stafford Railway needed me to print a form, post it with passbook and recent bank statement.Hats off to Saffron efficiency.
The final straw was when I transferred my iSA out but they wouldn't do so without me posting the passbook in, causing delays. I doublechcecked this week with The Progressive who also offer a postal passbook-based ISA, and they say they transfer the money away THEN ask you for the passbook causing minimal delay.
SRBS offer good rates and mean well, but they're just a bit too archaic for even me, who wants to support traditional building societies.3 -

I like the SRBS account as I'm happy with a passbook account, it was clear in the terms that the passbook is needed for a withdrawal and I accepted that restriction. I'm not local but I could, if needed, make the 3-hour drive to the branch in an emergency.
Whereas the Progressive RS terms of opening, requiring a selfie or posted certified documents is no good for me. Even though I had their 'clockwork regular savers' operated online in the past, before they closed their online operation down.

Just a heads up for anyone who opened one or both of the Monmouthshire regular savers last August. I hadn’t logged into my online account since September and tried to do so yesterday, but got a message saying my password had expired and they will send a new code out by post … I thought it would be worth mentioning as the maturity dates approach so people can sort their online access out in good time!0 -

Before a RS ends, Monmouthshire send you a letter with your maturity options.
This includes a QR code/webpage where you can submit your instructions online with no need to return the passbook.
If you submit your instructions by post then I believe they ask for the passbook3
