    Progressive
I received a call from Progressive about an hour after my last post. The person I spoke to admitted:
    1. They had no idea why I'd been sent an online message when there was no way I could access it
    2. They're overwhelmed with applications for the RS
    3. They are having lots of IT issues
    4. The only option was to reapply, which I did while they were on the phone. It failed at the first page.
It's been referred to IT to resolve, but there was "quite a backlog" of IT issues.
Typical for small local low tech BS opening their doors to a wider consumer market.  At least you are in their system, so if they pull the product any time soon you are still likely to have your account opened.

    Monmouthshire BS Regular Savers

Just a heads up for anyone who opened one or both of the Monmouthshire regular savers last August. I hadn’t logged into my online account since September and tried to do so yesterday, but got a message saying my password had expired and they will send a new code out by post … I thought it would be worth mentioning as the maturity dates approach so people can sort their online access out in good time!
Interesting. I've never experienced password expirations with Banks/BS.  Certainly not with MonBS, I've registered in December 2022 and my password is still working.

Sadly, MonBS not offered any more RSs since September last year.  Could be the end of line for MonBS regular savers.

Might just be they're waiting until the first people who went into the 8% and 7% RS's last year have theirs maturing to launch some new ones (fingers crossed).  So I believe that would be around end of August if they are going to do this.

My word it’s hard work, I applied last Saturday passed all ID checks got to the last screen and ‘Error’ please ring this number. Rang on Monday morning to be told I need to re-apply but state NO ID and this would flag up and someone would contact me so this is what I did. The codes to my email and phone took about 90 seconds to come through by the way. Two days later no call so I contacted them and to be fair phone answered quickly. I was then told my account was up and running and just needed to login, news to me. Anyway, I did this whilst on the phone and it worked, so I asked about issues with nominated bank account and said would Halifax or Santander be ok to use and was told both would work. Halifax did not work; I’ve had the account with them for 35 years fortunately Santander did work. I have tried to send a payment to the Progressive from my bank which does not acknowledge the info I put in but I proceeded and just sent £10 that was yesterday afternoon it has not yet turned up at the Progressive or been returned as yet watch this space.

The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
    There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.

Your deposit should show by lunchtime today. £20 is the minimum deposit for this saver, but like you I sent £10 from Santander and it was accepted.

    Saffron BS / Stafford Railway
Yesterday I had to close 2 RS for emergency funds. Phoned Saffron and full amount was in my current account by mid-afternoon. Whereas Stafford Railway needed me to print a form, post it with passbook and recent bank statement.
    Hats off to Saffron efficiency.
This is why, reluctantly, I have abandoned SRBS, even for their regular saver which I like because it's perpetual. It was bad enough waiting 3 weeks on one occasion for some forms to work their way through the postal system. My next attempt with a signed-for delivery (pragmatic compromise versus the cost of Special Delivery) was not actually signed for because of the usual Royal Mail defrauding practice of taking money for a serice they won't provide, and took SRBS 3 days to process, causing me to think it had been lost in the post.

The final straw was when I transferred my iSA out but they wouldn't do so without me posting the passbook in, causing delays. I doublechcecked this week with The Progressive who also offer a postal passbook-based ISA, and they say they transfer the money away THEN ask you for the passbook causing minimal delay.

SRBS offer good rates and mean well, but they're just a bit too archaic for even me, who wants to support traditional building societies.

I was forgetting the £20 minimum pay in, I'll just wait and see. Can't be much else to go wrong.

I sent £1 as a test payment, agreed by Helen over the phone.
Showed up after 1 hour, then sent £299.00.
One hour later I had a £300 balance.

This is why I'm always certain to read the t&c's for accounts I open.

I like the SRBS account as I'm happy with a passbook account, it was clear in the terms that the passbook is needed for a withdrawal and I accepted that restriction. I'm not local but I could, if needed, make the 3-hour drive to the branch in an emergency.

Whereas the Progressive RS terms of opening, requiring a selfie or posted certified documents is no good for me. Even though I had their 'clockwork regular savers' operated online in the past, before they closed their online operation down.
