Supanet was the first free one, I think we picked up the disc in WHSmith. We did have a paid for ISP for a year or so before that, but I can't remember the name. It was always a hassle to get a new dial-up working as far as I remember.

First experience of internet was an internet box from Argos around 2000 (Connected to TV) you still had to pay for calls, then got a virgin media box,  £5 a month or so, but you could never get on.

Got first pc that year, think I tried Lineone for a £5 a moth calls free, but evenings only.

Then AOL at £14.99 or so unlimited no call charges. , when looking back it was an exciting time, that dial up tone, the wow factor when you connected,  the aol browser, with all its extras groups etc

One of the exciting bits of software for me was something called Bitmagic, you downloaded the player and each day it was updated with cartoons jokes etc, really enjoyed it.

Would never go back of course but I did find it an exciting time.

My dad had Prestel on a BBC Basic (must have been late 80s/early 9os, so not proper internet).

I had aol then because prevously I had United Artist for cable which became telewest, then blueyonder, then virgin. I may have got the order confused. They made you change your email address at such a quickfire rate that I eventually sussed that webmail was absolutely the only way forwards.

Just remembered we had broadband for a while via a company called Be.
It wasn't so long ago, we couldn't get Sky BB in the road at the time - oh the joy when we could, Be. connection was utter rubbish.
