On another note, I was thinking about a new hobby and really want to take up learning to knit/crochet (is that how you spell it
) incase I ever have grandkids. Where is the best place, videos or books to start with? Any ideas appreciated!
wingo - That is just pure chance, I was looking at the Aldi site and they have some crochet items on offer (online) it might help you get a start.3 -
Morning, wet and dark here today. We have rain all day but at least it keeps the frost away.
Wingo have a look at Woman's Weekly they have good tutorials on knitting. I can knit, just as being left-handed it took me ages to learn but I can't crochet. Good luck with it. Sorry to hear about your neighbor's passing, it must be heartbreaking hearing the dogs crying all the time. You're so right about there being so much heartbreak in the world right now.
We are all doing ok, I have a cough and just feel tired all the time, also can't smell or taste anything. But hopefully, that will return soon.
Hope you all have a good weekend

Morning cold and wet here but no snow as forecast. Indie great you are all doing ok. My sister heard yesterday that her test was negative. She has terrible dry cough and like Indie so tired.Wingo that is so sad about your neighbour. Wingo I could never learn to crochet but I used to knit a lot but gave up with beginning of some arthritis. It was a bit sad as only DH can wear wool and acrylic never looks the same. The last things I knitted were some scarves with fluffy wool for Christmas presents. The wool was really thick so big needles and it was made in no time. I’ve just looked up and if you Google starting to knit then videos at the top you get some on u tube but also some with videos and writing underneath. Looking for specific knitting patterns on Google comes up with lots of free patterns. No good now but a friend always asks in charity shops if they have wool and they often had needles. As Duncan says Aldi and Lidl’s often sell kits and wool. I used to buy wool from King Cole company. They used to have an anti tickle Marino wool with lots of great colours. I remember years ago at work a colleague was pregnant and I asked would it be ok if I knitted some things for the baby. She looked at me as though I had three heads but agreed. After that I knitted for all the new babies. Unfortunately by the time our grandchildren came along so had the arthritis. It’s worth having a go at either the crochet or knitting you’ll soon know if you would like it and it can be very creative and relaxing. Thinking about it hand is not too bad I might try knitting again.
Very worrying here saw online that our local hospital has about 850 patients and half of them have COVID. So we are not going anywhere. I’m going to do some baking.

Hi all,Wish some of us had some good news to share!DD is due to change wards and the one she is going to on Monday has a patient with Covid. She was coming to visit after her shift so a bit worrying!I can knit and crochet wingo but bit out of practise! I had to google how to cast on when DD tried to knit when a kid. Im afraid I find it a bit boring.I have been booking a few other things in the summer. It is difficult to know whether to risk booking or not. Last year I felt we hadn't booked enough as prices went well up after lockdown but who knows.I hope you feel better soon indie. Our A&E still full leanfun but hopefully our cases are heading down. We have all been taken by surprise here.Mar Wins :- £2 GfK Media

Good Morning
Warm start to the day at 2 degrees so hopefully it will rise a bit later.
Getting a bit worried about Dad, he has stripped all the wallpaper of the entrance hall, does that mean he is going to decorate?
Going to the shop later, not needing much but there is an item in the middle aisle that we would like if they still have it.
Take care.3 -
Hi everyone,
I hope you're all feeling good on this Blue Monday! I feel a little ugh! Trying to stay positive though. I have a few questions but i'm not sure if I post them here or somewhere else-could anyone please advise?
If anyone would kindly take a few minutes to read and reply that would be wonderful. Thank you so much :-)
1. There are many competitions from the Christmas Advents that I haven't seen winners announcements posted, especially on Twitter. Some just state that they DM the winner and then we never hear anything again, is there a way of checking for winners?
2. Am I able to post a new thread if I have questions or is that just for admins?
3.Does anyone ever win from signing up-to newsletters?
4. How do I win a wem? I've entered competitions but never receive a wem, so I just wondered if anyone has any tips on this?

Good Morning
@nikkihuk you can ask any question you like on the Compers Chat Corner (next level up), there are more folk to answer you there as this place can be a bit quiet.
There is no secret to getting a winning email, you just need to keep entering as many comps as you want to, I personally don't look on websites for winning announcements, if I have won then I would hope they contact me about it and as for newsletters, I doubt if it makes much difference whether you sign up to them or not.
In the hour between getting home from the first walk and going out for the second one it went from clear and crisp to a freezing fog that has enveloped the whole area.
We are going to the shop for the second day in a row, yesterday it was mostly fruit and today it will be bread and tissues (if they have them) that's the trouble with Dad only being able to carry just so little in his backpack, not so much what it all weighs but the space it takes up.

Morning. @nikkihuk hi. It’s an odd one about Twitter they do DM and sometimes they announce the winner. To be honest I think so many people were entering the advents. Like Duncan I wait for them to contact me if I’ve won and to be honest not many wins even though I entered lots. I have found it doesn’t matter if you have signed up for their newsletter or not. I only sign up for newsletters of something I would really like if it’s compulsory. You can add a new thread with a question it’s not just for admin and as Duncan says more people would see your questions in a new thread below Compers Inn but to be honest I’ve not started a new thread since the new forum so I have not found out how to do it. A WEM usually comes when you least expect it but they are few and far between for most of us these days. Good luck.
Sheils some good news. Yesterday DH had a phone call from GP with an appointment to go for the vaccination and it’s local. They are using a leisure centre across the road from the big coop we went to last year. So we can park in the coop car park. DH asked the receptionist what about his wife and she gave me an appointment too. Before the GP call I had phoned a friend and this couple had been to the same place last week. She said they had the Pfizer vaccine.Sheils hope your husband is feeling better. My sister is a lot better but not 100% cough will not go away and she’s very tired. She’s working from home as she can’t have the vaccine due to anaphylaxis and they have a lot more cases where she works. Indie hope you are all a bit better.
Duncan shame about the freezing fog. The forecast for today didn’t look good anywhere. Hope you make it to the shops again. I think we have become so used to being in here going out just anywhere is going to be a shock.Wingo hope work is not too tiring this week.Take care.4 -
Afternoon
Good news about getting the vaccine leanfun. A step closer to feeling safe and hopefully getting back to a normal life. My DS went back to work today and his GF is back on thursday. We all have a cough but was told that could last a while but it's safe to go out. I went shopping and got a few supplies that we had run out of. It's wet and windy here today, but they have said it will be for a few days. Your fog sounds horrible Duncan, I don't like fog as it appears so quick.I hope your dad got the bits he needed from the shops today.
Sheils I hope your DD is ok after working on another ward, and she visited ok.
Have a good afternoon everyone
