Anyone who needs more than 6 drinks a day, holiday or otherwise, probably should be using their time to take a long hard look at themselves instead of whining about this.
It's nothing to do with need, it's about choice.  No need to be all judgmental.

I don't drink very much but even I think 6 drinks, when you're on holiday, relaxing and decompressing, is pretty low.
A small beer or two with lunch, an aperitif before dinner, a couple of glasses of wine and a liqueur with dinner would use up your whole allowance, so no going to the bar after dinner enjoying a few drinks whilst socialising, that is not reasonable.
Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear

What I can't figure out with these new rules is  how will they stop people from getting drunk in their room..ie buy booze in the supermarkets.
Maybe that's what the 'crackdown on balconying' means in Pollycat's post?

I think it's also about getting what you've paid for.
If the blurb says 'AI alcoholic drinks served from 11am til 8pm', then it's reasonable to expect that's what you get.

Just one article there from the 18th Jan, if you google Magaluf Drinking Laws it will throw up lots of results. I read various articles shared on social media around the same time too.

It's a specific area of Majorca and Ibiza, as you said before Magaluf has seen massive improvements in recent years and this is just another way of them trying to better the place really.

From what I can gather most tour operators don't know yet how it will fully affect them, and if you booked through an online travel agent then they will know less still at the moment as they will likely be waiting for more info from the hotel itself (which might be shut in winter) or from the accommodation supplier they have booked with.

Does it mention unlimited alcoholic drinks included in the brochure, if it doesnt then you are still getting what you paid for
It says AI alcoholic drinks served from 11am til 8pm. No mentions of a 6 drink limit.
My holiday provider has also told me that this law would’nt effect my holiday either
    Hmmm.
I guess they might say they are providing what they say they are as you can have your 6 drinks anytime between 11am and 8pm...? Slippery buggers, these holiday companies.
Which holiday company have you booked with and what is the hotel?
Have you done as requested by the hotel and sent them the email you had from the holiday company?

Do we know when this law is being implemented?
As you are not going until September, I guess there will be more publicity about this before you go.
Or are you considering cancelling and rebooking somewhere else?

It doesn’t say anywhere about a 6 drink limit though. It say AI drinks from 11am til 8am. And If this in fact does come into effect then I’ve been lied to by the holiday company.
I’ve booked with On the beach and at Bh Mallorca (and before anyone says anything about it being a party hotel) I haven’t gone for that reason...yeh I like a nice pool party with a DJ but I’m not one of these rowdy teenagers, hence why I’ve opted to go in September when the customer is slightly older, I just liked the suites and the gym (yes I’m one of these sad holiday gym goers before I get jumped on) ha!

Yes I’ve forwarded them the email but I’ve not heard anything back since.

I’ve read that the council have a meeting at the start of next month with the hoteliers so I’m guessing that something will be agreed then.

I’m not sure as I really want to stop in this hotel. I think really they should be altering the price of all AI hotels that have been booked if this is coming into effect.

  • "I’ve also been told by my travel provider that this law will not effect my AI"
How can they say that unless they know that your hotel is located outwith the proscribed zone ?
Are they suggesting Brits will be excused Mallorcan law ?

I know, so clearly they are lying to me. Surely they know this law is being discussed so shouldn’t of they been honest and told me that they will inform their customers once this law has been put into place officially

    Re the bit in bold:
I'm not sure how you'd stand with this legally as the information provided to you by OTB was actually true at the time of booking.

I reply to your response when I emailed to ask them about this law that’s possibly being enforced I asked them if this AI 6 drink limit would apply to my AI holiday that I’d already booked and they replied that this law does not apply to AI holidays the new law is in regards to organised bar crawls and happy hours within resort bars and not to AI hotels. But people have been replying to this saying how can OTB say this as it’s a law set by the council so if that’s the case then they’ve lied if in fact the law does effect by AI holiday.
I was also reading on another website that someone who has booked a holiday that has been significantly changed can get a full cancellation on the holiday. Wouldn’t not receiving what was advertised at the time of booking be a significant change to a holiday?
