All inclusive drinks limit in Magaluf

Hi I booked an all inclusive holiday to Magaluf end of Jan for September. 2 days ago it was brought to my attention that the Magaluf council are trying to enforce drinks limits to 6 drinks a day on all inclusive holidays. 3 at lunch time and 3 at dinner time. This was not noted on my holiday when I booked this so I contacted my holiday provider to ask and they assured me that this new law would not affect my All inclusive holiday and the law was for happy hours within bars and organised bar crawls. I contacted the hotel directly via email and they did not confirm or deny this, all they asked me is if I could forward them the email I received off my holiday provider confirming this. I just want to know what my rights are really if this law does go ahead as isn’t this false advertisement as I’m paying for something that I won’t be receiving. Thank you

No inside knowledge but the purpose of the local authorities is to reduce drunkenness on the streets and in local bars not hotels so no reason to affect your holiday unless, of course, you get tanked up in the hotel on the freebies and then go out and behave poorly!0

It’s a very strange rule to limit 6 drinks on a all inclusive as it’s not all inclusive then 🤷🏽♀️ I can totally agree with stopping all these ridiculous drink offers they do in the bars but to do that on an all inclusive is ridiculous. It does say that it’s something that is being discussed though0

It won't be false advertising if the rule about 6 drinks hadn't been introduced at the time of booking. Also, not all "all inclusive" offers are the same. I have seen variants which only have AI during certain hours of the day, others which limit the type of drinks.... One place we stayed in Cyprus (we were not AI) only served drinks for AI customers from one bar and only permitted 2 drinks to be purchased at one visit. That resulted in very long queues at times, so was effectively reducing the intake anyway.

I would want to challenge the advice received from your holiday provider, I suspect they are being disingenuous with the truth. It's the Balearics government, not the local council (Ayuntamiento) that are implementing restrictions, and it includes other parts of Mallorca and Ibiza. As I understand it, there will be defined locations where the ban is imposed - so it's a case of being unlucky if your AI hotel is within these proscribed areas.Recent reports appear to indicate that "clued up" punters are checking out the territorial issues and booking accommodation outwith. This policy is a recent development, so the likes of TUI etc. may not have had details to hand in respect of hotels involved.I did see a report which indicated the specific territorial details, I'll flag it up if I can find it.

WOW!
That's a very interesting link.
I think it's really going to shake up AI bookings to the area.

I wonder how many regular AI holidaymakers to these named locations are aware of what's coming down the turnpike ?0

Yeh my hotel falls in that limited area unfortunately. The all inclusive that I’ve paid for is for food and drinks from 11am until 8pm. What I’m asking really is as I’ve paid for what was advertised is there anything I can do if this law comes into effect0

Some years ago I booked an AI to Sri Lanka & we were limited to 6 drinks a day, & AI was only certain drinks. Although it didn't effect us as MrD rarely drinks so I could have his share, & the bottles of beer were huge. One couple were furious though as they sat around the pool all day drinking, & their drinks weren't included in the AI package. It was in the small print when I checked though. Oh & then there was the no alcohol day, I told them I didn't wish to participate in that & took my stash off to my room.0

I’m not a big drinker at all and 6 drinks would probably be plenty for me but to only be allowed 3 drinks at lunch the 3 drinks at dinner is not great. I wanted to stop at the hotel for other reasons so I wasn’t too bothered about it being all inclusive but as I’ve paid a lot for the holiday i think it’s unfair to have to take more money on top if you want more drinks. I’m paying for all inclusive drinks so it’s what you should be getting.I can see the authorities reasons for is as these resorts have got bad names for the drinking culture, I just think this is something that should’ve been resolved at the end of last season so holiday providers would’ve been advertising the correct information.0
