Mine was Lakeland too! I’ll have to investigate the loft again, just in case.

  • Mine wouldn't fit in the loft. Behind the wardrobe? Under a bed? In the shed/outhouse?

I need to replace mine after the plug melted 😬. I'm still using my heated airer but as a "non heating" one. Reminds me, I need to get a wash done tonight. I'm so behind and the front room looks like a laundrette again.🤦‍♀️

Our conservatory is a permanent laundry with just two of us! Mind you it saves some leccy so mustn't complain.

I have been reading some really bizarre suggestions on energy savings, and we already do most of the 'sensible' ones.

Leaving the oven door open to cool down and share the heat with the kitchen after you have used it?  Makes me worry about a cat nipping in for a nice snooze though.
Turning the boiler down so the water is the right temperature for the bath/shower without extra cold, so not paying to heat it up to cool it down.

Making some rice bags for microwaving rather than hot water bottles was cheap and effective last time I did it, using value rice and recycled fabric.  Cheaper than boiling the kettle, and far less painful than second degree burns on your hand when the hot water bottle blows back.  (three months on and the scar is finally starting to heal, hurrah)

    Hey @redofromstart 👋
We have the worry about the cat jumping in the oven too so only leave it open if we are actually in the kitchen.
Boiler water is set lower yes but not heard of the rice bags one? Please provide details as this would be idea for my fabric scraps I seem to be making into a collection/stash. I'm sure @WinterWarrior would like this too.
I am intrigued as to what the bizarre suggestions are! I will have to have a nose at the energy thread 😂

    Hello!

the rice bags are really simple, think school bean bags.  Small bag.  half filled with uncooked rice, optional few drops of essential oil, sew the end up.  Microwave for a minute, acts as a hot water bottle. If you can't sew you can cut a sleeve off, tie a knot, half fill with value rice, then tie another knot. Pennies. Works quite well as long as you don't over heat them.

    Good morning all.
I delighted that our furniture loan is now at a nice round £100. This will be cleared by June. I am now using my Tilly Tidies towards the shower mixer tap. I've priced it up at £89.00 and when we have saved that will get a quote from trusty plumber to fit. Hopefully that will save some pennies on the electric.
