Well done on kicking the furniture loan..fabulous achievement! You say the change in NI April and July? Isn’t it just every month from July, or am I missing another increase? I have estimated it from April on my spreadsheets, although I won’t know exactly until it happens. Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

April pay increase of 1.25%
July paying threshold increases to same as basic tax so £12,570 I think (anyone in payroll please correct me).
Therefore you pay more in April but if basic rate payer less in July.Dedicated Debt Free Wanabee 🤓

It's because they raised the percentage a while ago before cost of living went belly up. It's to help refund NHS for a year (allegedly 🤨) then next year will be shown as a separate line on payslip as a health and social care tax which unlike N.I. will be payable by all like income tax so working pensioners will pay it.
I'm all for us paying more to get more out but I could do with more in the coffers to pay it 🤣
In order to help they are raising N.I. threshold so low earners pay less.
In my sceptical opinion it's going towards merging tax and N.I. so no one gets off paying it no matter how long they worked and contributed but time will tell.
As for interesting -yes very. I enjoy puzzles and it's certainly caused me some on my spreadsheets 🥴Dedicated Debt Free Wanabee 🤓

Mr M_F has had confirmation of a payrise 😁 it's going on the debt paydown. I wanted to bump his pension up but he says can do that when debt free which is true. Really lucky to have a partner who is on same page with finances and hates debt as much if not more than me ❤️Dedicated Debt Free Wanabee 🤓

Thanks SA. We had a cheeky midweek glass of wine last night to celebrate. Along with freezer fish and chips 😋. Much nicer than any meal out and shared with pusscat and dog.
Fingers crossed prices don't rise much more or the extra will be going on them instead of debt 😱Dedicated Debt Free Wanabee 🤓

I have a decent pay rise in July which will mean an extra £70 a month in my pocket, however my gas/electric is going up by approx £100 a month, totally cancelling it out 😡

Boo hiss to the gas and electric. We had already factored our rise in with the money we were using to over pay the mortgage. As we were overspending and got debt as a result we have been working hard to reduce spending along the way.
No longer paying for dying hair at hairdresser's. Haven't actually died it since December seeing how it goes.
Reducing grocery spends.
Getting debt onto long 0% deals .
Got rid of sky TV (only had basic anyway)
Stopped meals out to please other people.
Reduced takeaways alot!
Share one car.
Don't go on holiday
Etc etc. It's hard for people in your position with one partner disabled I realise. Wish we worked nearer to home so could keep to one car permanently but the two miles + walk daily is taking a toll on Mr MF and the extra hours commuting certainly does on both of us. We are lucky to be healthy enough to do it though so know it could be worse.Dedicated Debt Free Wanabee 🤓

Well done on the pay rise and all your cost saving. I don’t dye my hair anymore either…nearly 2 years now and I’m kind of used to looking like a witch 🤣 I’m hoping for lovely silver stripes when it grows right out, but for now…witch 😬 we don’t have holidays either, but do have 2 cars. Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien
