Delurking to repeat some advice given by a colleague a few years ago: “they say if you don’t drink, exercise and eat healthily you’ll live longer, you won’t, it will just feel like it” 😆

All those who live to a ripe old age advocate a little of what you fancy in moderation. Although if you know caffeine is causing problems it makes sense to cut it down/out.

I have two coffees a day both in the morning, for some weird reason I rarely want one after 10am.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Thanks @Sun_Addict. It's hard but it will benefit me in the long run. I am not converting to olives from chocolate no matter what you say mind 🤣🤣

  • So another day of no caffeine 😇
Not a no spend day as had chippy for dinner and picked up a few things needed.
Still running to budget just this week which is low as we overspent last week. I've adjusted Friday shop to eek out the rest of this week's pennies and have a list of what we will need to top up along with the budget left to make me think before adding extras.
I downloaded a list app on my phone (Googles Keep Notes) it's brill. I can add the top up items as I think of them. Rearrange in order of need and tick off when we got them.
I've set up a new list with jobs for the week (only put two things on it so far ahem) and may do a meal planner one as we tend to chop and change meals.

  • I would hate to do the no caffeine thing.  I would give up chocolate first to be honest.

Actually i have currently given up bread, and chocolate.  Caffeine would be a step too far.  *makes more tea*

My GP has told me to drink decaff tea. I dont drink coffee at all as I dont like it. The first couple of days were horrible from withdrawal but its ok now and I am even used to the different taste. I dont know if its making me healthier but I can kid myself.

I'm still drinking tea. Even got me some caffeine free diet coke 🤢. I'll get used to it or give it up 😮‍💨 I really can't cope with weekly migraines so have motivation.

I have found a great decaf coffee. Nescafé gold blend decaf. It's fab.

  • I went decaf a couple of years ago when peri menopause anxiety palpitations kicked in. 3 days of hideous withdrawal headaches later and I’m determined never to drink caffeine again. Won’t go through that again.  Lidl decaf tea is ok, I love Aldi decaf coffee (but I’m a notoriously bad coffee person, can’t do fresh, only ever instant) I don’t do fizzy drinks as I don’t have a gallbladder and that means fizzy gives me hideous gassy cramps.

My palpitations stopped within a week and haven’t come back so far.
  • Thanks @Jellytotts and welcome to my not so regular diary. You too @ladyholly (I should have welcomed you yesterday - bad moving-forward  😞)

I have noticed while cutting out the fizzy pop mid week for budgeting purposes my IBS cramps etc weren't as bad so it maybe something to consider full time. Softly softly don't want to become a do gooder too quick or @WinterWarrior may de friend me 😱

I am a total self confessed coffee and tea snob I'm afraid so it's two of very few things I buy branded. I shall try the versions you recommend JT and if not to my taste will probably end up forcing them on Mr M_F to use up as he takes his with sugar so is less fussy in that department.

Been a busy couple of days. Friday Mr Plumber fixed our tap (had to be replaced) so we now can wash our hands like posh people in a basin rather than over the bath 🤣
Must say it made a huge difference having money set aside that we could use so no trauma was had. God the days of worrying which credit card to put the purchase on and how much the plumbers bill would be as overdraft was nearly at its limit. Makes us determined to get this debt gone and make sure we have pots of gold ready to spring into action when life's mini emergencies bite you in the bum.
After we went for a day out on the train and had a walk around a different town that has one of those lovely John Lewis that you go ooh and arh over all the lovely things. Money stayed in our wallets except for some need toiletries and a day out meal at a fancy burger place. OMG it was fab. May not be the Ritz but we loved it. Train fare and meal came out our day out and holiday budget. We don't go away because of pusscat and dog so do things like this instead.
Yesterday was spent generally pottering around doing bits and pieces and making cake, cooking a sausage casserole for in the week and then we cooked a very nice curry together for dinner.
Todays activities will be decided later.

Have a good day all x
