  • I used to work for Dixons years ago.. When i did they were selling products on special cheap prices for xmas.. They knew full well that 70 to 80 % of these products sold would be back in January as faulty.. But had to reach there total sales for xmas.. I have recently bought (against my will) a stereo from them at Currys.. Yes you guessed it its just gone wrong.. After being pushed round the automated telephone system. I got a teenager with an attitude problem who said return it to the store.. I asked for Head office number and insisted on his name as i wanted to complain about his attitude toward me.. He then got very helpfull .. (NOTE THIS) HE ASKED ME FOR THE PRODUCT NUMBER. Then told me it was a CODE 5 product. If i take it back and tell them this they will replace it no problem.. In other words they know its crap but still sell them.. So nothing has changed in nearly 20 years.. If its on the code 5 list dont buy it.. Worth asking them to check if you ever do shop there again

And in that statement you prove that you know nothing,
a code 5 item is items that are not economical to repair, not because they are crap but usually because of the price of the machine, most items under £100 are code 5 as its not economically viable to repair them
eg nindento ds lite's are £99.99 and they are code 5
are you saying they are crap and not worth buying?
same as most microwaves, flash drive mp3 players, cameras under£130 eg fuji 510, all keyboards and mice, most digital radios and freeview boxes, george foreman grills.
i could go on but i think i've proven that ypu are wrong

I used to work for Dixons when they had High St stores and I would never buy an extended warranty. If they want to sell you one (and they will) get them to throw it in free as an incentive for you to buy the product.
They can and will do this, especially on more expensive items. They also have a certain amount of discount per day they are allowed to take off. Since working there I have never purchased any electrical item without either discount or freebies thrown in.
Ebay~ A wretched hive of scum and villainy. :p

Im only saying what the tech support told me..I said so basically its a crap item
and he said yes basically. All what i said above that is true from my personal experience. About selling goods that they know have faults. Sorry if i misled anyone on the code 5 part.... Taking the stereo back in the morning lets see. If you work for Currys would be interested in anyones oppinion on Hitachi goods

Different area completely but Vodafone knowingly sent me out 2 faulty Nokia mobile phones. They started to bed over backward and pay attention when i told them to get stuffed. All company's are doing it.

    Hello everyone,

I have got a digital hard drive camcorder and looking to take out warrenty on it... as it cost £450. I got it from Comet and Domestic and General are offering me extended warrenty on the cover.

What is the best thing to do in this situation? Do I go with Domestic and General or are there other companies out there who can insure the camera?

My own experience of Mastercare has taught me the hard way what most people on here know already - that it's a waste of money. I was passed between mastercare, Currys and dyson for 5 years, each saying it was the other's responsibility. Currys even lent me a hoover for a while, to shut me up I imagine. Eventually, I threw the machine away, having cost me way over the odds with the plan factored in. I'm convinced that without the wretched insurance Currys would have had to replace or repair the machine themselves.

I'm sure there are odd occasions when the plan works in the customer's favour, but on the whole I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole.

I wont even entertain Currys or Dixons Stores Group staff when they start with their Coverplan rubbish. I find they get very rude and aggressive if you say no you dont want one, at which point i normally walk out of the store !!

i bought a mobile phone online from currys ,about 3 mnoths before end of the warranty it kept flickering on aND OFF(it was a flip fone) took it to my local currys store(after about 5 phone calls asknig where it was to go) currys didnt have a clue masterplan guy said not sure u can return this etc, although still under warranty, anyway they took it back(didnt give me a repalcement so was without a mobile fone for 6 weeks although i needed 1 for emergencies as my son,s severly disabled and always taking ill)now if they didnt repair it within 6 weeks they had to gimme a new one,so suprise 2 days before 6 weeks were up i phoned and they said it was fixed, went up and picked it up(didnt look like it had been out of the store or even looked at) but as it didnt flicker all the tiem there was no way of telling if it was fixed there and then, got it home and within a week it was donig the same again, and warranty had ran out so was left with a useless £150 mobile fone,so wont be using currys again
