Hello,
I read your story and yours is very similar to mine. My story with cover plan goes like this,
I brought a laptop in September 05. Happy I was and for extra safety they roped me into buying 5 years warrantly for x amount. 1 year later my screen started to go a funny colour. I called 'The Tech Guys' who asked me to send it back to them. They sent it back 2 weeks later, I couldn't believe it. I opening the package turned it on and there was my screen... still broke. All they had done was cleaned the keyboard.... 2 weeks to clean a keyboard but thanks for cleaning it?! LOL. Anyway I called them up they apologised asked for it back so I sent it. Bearing in mind this is about Nov 06. I called up 4 weeks later... they never received it.... There bloody courier picked it up. After calling about 20 times they 'find it' it had got mixed up with anyone guys laptop!
However I never received him and they never admitted to giving mine to him.
(I'll cut the middle part out)
However, April 07 I still have no laptop despite paying monthly for the Coverplan. Anyway, I called and called and called. Eventually they agree 6 weeks have past... more like 6 months... they send me some vouchers. That takes 2 months to arrive. So baring in mind this ordeal has gone on some 7 months I have spent my own money to get a new computer in the mean time. The vouchers arrive, £1000 for new comp & £250 for the 8 months payment which I had no laptop but still paid the coverplan. I called to discuss the fact I brought a new computer and they needed to send a cheque not vouchers to pay back what I forked out. So I send the vouchers back some 4 weeks later I get a cheque for £1000. Erm... something is missing, £250. Bearing in mind this has already taken 9 months to get the money out of them from the date I sent my laptop. I have written many letters and made many phone calls to them. NOW, They have no acknowledgment of the payment to me, no details of half of what went on. A TOTAL SHAMBLES. To this day over a year later and still pestering them for my £250 wasting £100's if not £1000's on phones bills. Im not over exaggerating either. I must have called for at 1000 minutes in the last year. roughly 8p a minute x min 1000 = £800 in phone calls. Nearly the price of the laptop!!
Anyway, its 8th January 2008 and still nothing despite still chasing them and them looking into it.
I consider myself a grown man and can safely admit I could of sobbed my eyes out with the stress and frustration of those w**kers. (that story was not even half of the full story but sorry for going on so long)
SO Martin if your out there and read this and can offer any advice on what to do or how to actually get through to them and make them send my £250 + ideally phone bill cost I would be grateful. Im in no great rush though!!Infact can you call them for me!!
Morale of my story NEVER, THATS NEVER BUY OFF CURRYS/DIXON/THE TECH GUYS AND NEVER EVER TAKE OUT A WARRENTY WITH MASTERCARE/COVERPLAN. Email me if you want more information.0 -
HiI agree mastercare in my opinion are rubbish.I have used domestic & general for about 8 years. I have had washing machine repaired about 6 times with no major problems. The dish washer about 5 times and then when it broke beyond repair I got the equiv purchase price and then allowed me to add a little more, £30 and I got a higher spec. They normally come out to you within 48hrs and only on one occasion did it require a second visit because they did not have the part on he van. Depends on parts required and the make. I have also got other electrical products covered. You can look on their web site for a rough price. (domgem.com) but always phone them and ask for a better price. If you already then have one cover they will usually give a better discount on further covers. you can pay in full or 10 months D/DFor me they have been v good0

I too have just had a terrible experience with mastercare.
I bought an Lg 42" plasma 2 years ago for £2000 from Currys, I also purchased a 5 year warranty on it for £599.
Last week we noticed a very thin black line had appeared on the screen, so I called mastercare and they said the tv would need to be fixed in their workshop. Even though the fault was very minor, i thought id have it fxed incase it got worse.
They came and took the telly away and told me it would take 7- 10 days to repair and i would not be getting a replacement one in the meantime (Nightmare!)
10 days had passed and i had no call. I called them yesterday and i was informed that my tv is beyond economical repair and i would be receiving vouchers to buy a replacement. I couldnt believe it when i was told the vouchers were for £699!!!!!! (They had priced my tv to a like for like panasonic tv???) I asked could i have my old telly back in addition and was told no, even though the line was sooooo tiny on the screen. They told me that it was going to be crushed.
The policy was a complete waste of money as ive only been compensated for £100 more than what i paid for the whole insurance cover. I would have been better off putting the £599 in my bank account then i would have the money to buy a new tv and i would still have my old, perfectly watchable tv.
I would NEVER buy this ever again!!!!! :mad:0 -

I think you also get a pro rata refund of the warranty back0
-
yes they are refunding whats left of my policy, IN VOUCHERS, might i add. Ive also just noticed that my 5 year cover plan started on the day i bought the tv.
Can someone clarify, if i automatically get a 12 month manufacturers warranty shouldnt it have started a year later?? Hypathetically 1 year of the coverplan was wasted as it ran co-jointly with LG's warranty?0 -
Yes the coverplan starts with your normal warranty, in the first year you are covered for accidental damage with mastercare and manafactuers warranty, from year 2 its master care warranty and accidcental damage cover0

HI,
My brother's history is this:
After several calls and pounds expend to tech guys they accepted his laptop had taken more than 6 weeks to repair and have written it off.
However the laptop cost £1500 and the cost of the protection was based on this amount, but Cover plan have only sent a voucher for £649 saying that this is the price of a laptop of same specifications today.
Should he complain and ask for full £1500 value of the Laptop?
I understand this is in the T&C's but surely the real cost of the Coverplan was for a £1500 laptop, not to mention it is Sony and they are more expensive than the £650 voucher.
Anyone had the same and complained been successful?0
