You have to remember that technology gets cheaper, so even tho the laptop cost £1500 you can buy one with a similar spec today for £650, what was the spec of the laptop ?

So I paid £500 for the cover and to received £650 is ok?

It was a Sony Intel Pentium Centrino VGN model (the small ones), today any Sony ultra light cost no less than £900 - £1000 +
May be a Phillips or Advent but not Sony will cost £650

Then you need to state you case, using printouts etc from the site and state its a lightweight laptop and brand etc.

There is a £650 Sony laptop on the PCW website

Same as car insurance, the value of your car is always going down every minute, its the same with technology items, my new Dell pc cost me £250 the last pc i bought 3 years ago cost £500 but the Dell is way more advanced.
  • Just to let you no i received my vouchers for my replacement tv yesterday morning. They did arrive the next day after complaining.

I was dissappointed that my policy reinbursement was in a separate refund of coverplan vouchers (can only be used on a new coverplan agreement?)

I went to my local currys store all guns blazing!!!!

At first they tried to palm me off with the cheapest 42" plasma in the store which just happened to match the £699 voucher price. Luckily enough i had the spec of my old tv. My old tv had the picture in picture function which we use to monitor our cctv cameras on the house. I told them i wanted this feature on the new tv. I was told that LG dont do this anymore. The guy was very helpful in the store and called mastercare/coverplan to see which tv's has this feature.

I was offered a 40" samsung (£899) that matched my spec, but once again i declined as i did not see why i should settle for a smaller tv???

The 42" samsung did not have the features but the 46" samsung did! Good enough the staff worked their magic on the phone with coverplan and they agreed to give me the bigger tv, £1299!!!! What a result from a £699 voucher.

I was then told that my £180 coverplan voucher was not enough to cover the cost of the minimum 3 year cover on my new tv. The new policy was £269 so i would need to put cash with it. Again i stood my ground and refused as i was given a voucher that was useless, so what was the point?

Eventually they agreed to give me the full policy for the price of my voucher.

Finally, just beofe i got threw out.....ha ha... i told them i would now need a bigger wall bracket as the telly was bigger. The bracket was £200 (which i wasnt paying), but due to the excellent work of the staff involved i agreed to pay a discounted price of £80.

I have to say im chuffed, but i dont think it was down to coverplan, more the helpfullness of the staff involved. They were great!!!

A BIG THUMBS UP FOR YOU!!!!!

  • these extended warranty products are a rip off, companies only use them to try to get out of their legal responsibilities of the sale of goods act.
  • Mastercare - DO NOT under any circumstances take out an extended warranty with this bunch of cowboys. My mother (who is 85 and lives on her own) has an extended warranty with them, covering her washing machine. It stopped working nearly 3 weeks ago. She contacted Mastercare and the engineer visited some 3 days later. He advised her she would need a new drum and bearings and he would call the following week to fit the new parts - he didn't turn up and didn't call her. As she was becoming increasingly upset at not having the washing machine, I called Mastercare - what a bunch of ignorant, arrogant, useless individuals work in their call centre. Customer Service? What a joke. this must be one of the worst call centres to deal with. Even IF you manage to speak to a supervisor they have an annoying habit of trying to talk over you all the time, they are not prepared to listen. Twice now I've asked or been advised that I need to be transferred to another department, both times I've ended up listening to a voice mail, telling me that the department I've been passed to a department which was closed. We are now into the 3rd week of no machine and no help from Mastercare. To add insult to injury (buyers beware) Mastercare have a great get out clause in the small print, which my mother unfortunately didn't read when she took out the agreement, their agreement states that they will affect a repair within SIX weeks. I REPEAT - DO NOT BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM THESE COWBOYS, OPEN A BANK ACCOUNT AND PUT AN EQUIVALENT AMOUNT INTO IT EACH MONTH, YOU WILL UNDOUBTEDLY HAVE ENOUGH IN THE ACCOUNT TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIR, OR TO REPLACE THE APPLIANCE WHEN IT GOES WRONG. And you won't have to spend time talking to these ignorant, arrogant idiots in the call centre. By the way, I also work in a call centre and if I spoke to my customers the way these people do I would have been sacked by now.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
  • I remember when I bought a toaster from there (or was it comet...) and they tried to sell me the coverplan.

That's where they make the real money.

I got an ex-repair CRT TV from Currys two years ago, it cost £70. The mastercare cost an extra £30, so £100 all in. The TV packed up, engineers were too slow in repairing it (28 day limit), so they sent me vouchers to replace it. As it was a JVC, and had a good spec, the vouchers were for £599, plus the remains of the mastercare. We got an LCD TV, and a laptop from PCWorld brand new for our original £100. Sometimes it is worth taking the cover!
