If it's any help, I had an ex who was like a child in a lot of ways, just did not want to grow up and do the things that everyone else had to do. Lived with his mother all his life but never learned to cook, or do anything proactive. Complained non stop about other people , was angry about nothing all the time. I just had enough and left. Yes, he 'couldn't help it' but honestly, he's managed to sort himself out a place to live and a job even though he hates that he's no longer able to do what he likes all day so he's not destitute, and it turns out, can function by himself, because he finally had to.

No one should spend their lives being someones carer or safety net if what they get is abuse for it.

So basically, what thorsoak said....

I've not been through it myself mellie but those seem like normal emotions.

It's not overkill. They are there to give you a safe space to talk, to help you to find out what your options may be, and then decide what you want  to do. Talking to them doesn't commit you to anything.

Because you feel like you're the one who should have kept things toghether. you're finally doing what your family and friends have been telling you for years and you think you should have seen it coming. Don't worry, they;re all natural emotions. Just wait a few weeks and you'll be really angry insead. Google break up emotons or similar. You'll see it's not unusual, it's perfectly normal.
