they have obviously decided that that no longer want any customers.

As there is 2 months between now and when you have to take up their offer (or have your card closed) I wonder if a much lower uptake rate than they expect might push them to change their minds at all?

I am quietly hoping so, but I won't be holding my breath.

Yeah I am a bit annoyed as I have just opened a cashback card with them (shortly before they announced they were closing applications). For £5.99 a month it's not financially viable.

I opened an account with Tandem in response to Natwest making changes to their reward credit card reducing all non-supermarket spending from 0.5% to 0.25%. I learnt though that they are keeping the 1% cashback on supermarket spend which is decent.

Difficulty now is to work out where to go next. I don't want too many applications on my credit file. I don't need a big credit limit, so may end up going to Aqua.

Frankly the 'computer won't let us change you between cashback and travel' and the 'you can't reapply if you've previously left,' are pushing me to leave out of spite.
I'd be worried for them that this could completely sink them as a business.

So you can't convert a cashback card to a journey card and if you leave tandem then you can never apply for a journey card so - silly question - what happens if you apply for a journey card prior to your cashback card being cancelled on the 9th of March

I cannot find anything in the t&c that says you can't have both cards at once but doubtless it is probably there somewhere

I was expecting a fee to be introduced but £6 is too steep for me. I'll be letting it lapse. I had the Sant 123 card for years paying £3pm which I'd accepted as I was getting cashback, when I finally had a look around for a better deal, I switched to Tandem 3 months ago, I saw that this might happen so I applied for an Amex last month which will be my new account. I have a Sant Zero for abroad spending and non Amex transactions, it's no cashback but doesn't cost anything either.

Tandem, it's a shame as I was just starting to like your card and app but it's not going to work between us.

+1 for leaving, lucky I have my Barclaycard travel, although that ends in 3 years time. I guess I can count on my revolut and Starling for my overseas spending, albeit no cashback

I finally got a reply from Tandem, they completely ignored all of my feedback (it wasnt a rant, actually quite complimentary) and just proceeded to try and sell me their 5.99 product. I've told them im not impressed with their response and gave them a few calculations im sure theyve seen many times this afternoon.

My main concern at this point is an open dispute I have with the Jordanian border who charged me twice. It's been a painful experience so far and I'm hoping it'll be resolved before they close my account, what will happen after if it's not? Will the app still work if i have no active product with them?

I wouldn't be counting on Starling still being fee free in 3 years time when the Barclaycard travel deal expires. The (small) problem with Barclaycard is that it's Visa, so it's a very good card but, generally, not quite the best for spending. I'll probably just stick with both my Barclaycards for now (travel card and 0.5% cashback card) and review the travel in 3 years. I very much doubt the cashback card will be around beyond the end of this year, as it pays more cashback than they are allowed to charge retailers.
  • +2 for leaving. 2 accounts in my family so £12 per month is a none starter.
