This is why I got the Tandem card way in advance, so the Credit Check from when applying for it didn't affect my mortgage, but now all this planning was for nothing... :(
Credit scores aren't that simple, I think you are worrying too much.  Your credit score is improved much more by having a card that is used and managed sensibly than it is lowered by having a credit check or two.

Nenco - so why did you get the Cashback Card? I'm surprised you did, Tandem stated they were fairly selective about who got their Cashback Card
Tandem do have another credit card product, the Journey Card, which is for credit history improvement. This is still live and isn't part of the Membership program.

Yes, it arrived this morning.  Weirdly, it said they tried to send an email on 8 January but my email address is invalid/incorrect.  That's not true, I received umpteen emails saying 9 March was the deadline, so I shredded my card and cancelled the DD after the balance had been cleared.
They say they've extended the date to 30th April so that I have 60 days' notice.

Yes, that's exactly the same for me

I hope they are only doing that for selected customers who they believe they haven't got a valid email address on file. I expect them to do as they have advised me they will do. If they do not then I will raise a formal complaint as I've gone to some effort to make alternative arrangements on the basis of their earlier communications.

I got an email a couple of days ago confirming my account is closing next week if I do nothing. Don't think there is any widespread extension

What will be the basis of your complaint?  They say they'll close your account and then try to do what they think is the decent thing and delay closure.  I see that as good, not bad.  If you now have an even better card then you win.  If your new card isn't as good as the old Tandem and they allow you to extend, then you also win.  But sometimes there's no pleasing some people!!!

The basis of my complaint will be that as a result of their communications I made a credit application that I did not need to make, and I made a balance transfer that I did not need to make, and I stopped spending on the card in order for it to be closed in an orderly fashion when it transpires it will not be closed as advised.
They could please me by not changing their terms, or when they do change their terms, communicating accurate information about those changes in the first instance.
That said, I've not received any indication that my account will not be closed in line with their earlier communications, so I do not yet have any grounds for complaint.
