I've read this thread and wish I'd found it sooner.  I've had a 2nd email from Tandem today about closing the account.  I've had the card for just over a year and thought it was pretty good.  The only issue for me was not being able to use Pay at Pump with it.  Now I really don't know what to do.  I don't earn/spend enough to justify £6 per month so it's going.  I've looked on this site at the recommendations and none of them suit my situation.  I don't want an Amex card - DH has one and not many places here seem to like it.  I use BA perhaps once every 5 years so no point in that and they don't fly near here.  I don't shop at Sainsbury's or use Amazon.
I already have an M&S card which I used exclusively until they changed their cash back a few years ago.  I also have a Halifax Clarity card which I would use abroad but every time I've tried it has been refused, even when they know where and when I'm going.  I hate Debenhams so wouldn't use their card and rarely use Waitrose.
Sorry I sound really negative but I liked the instant notifications from Tandem and I'm really fed up.  Any suggestions for other cards which give cash back?  TIA

Shame about Tandem, even more so their apparent ambivalence towards their customers with Ricky Knox's latest statement! (He and Tandem have been very absent on Twitter recently I notice.) Having read that they may not be paying full cashback this month, have decided to stop using mine straightaway rather than wait for end of the card as I'd planned. I was going to apply to Aqua but then changed my mind as I was buying some one off big stuff which their credit limit wouldn't cover, so got AMEX Everyday card instead. Very pleased with it so far. Applied on a Sat, arrived Tue. Have benefited well from the 5% CB for 3 months due to the purchases and it's accepted in more places than I thought it might be. Customer service has been excellent on phone and instant messaging, and offers pop up that could be good (latest to appear is 10% cashback for £20+ Morrison's spend). Have Starling debit and Halifax Clarity for travel.

It's harder and harder to be rewarded for managing your money well.
  • can you link me to the statement?

Hello, does anyone have a link to an article saying cashback won't be paid on the final bill?
My thinking is that we signed up for cashback and therefore that's what we're due until our cards are automatically cancelled. Can anyone confirm? (My last bill from today paid the full cashback).
In addition we are allowed to use the card until cancelled. Presumably we should then get a bill which includes the cashback. Does anyone know if this is true?
Does anyone know the time allowed to clear the balance? (I believe we should have some time to ensure we do not incur interest charges from the date of cancellation).
Answers to the above 3 questions do not seem to be on Tandem's own website. (Sorry if I couldn't find it, or in the previous 23 pages here).
In addition I am in the process of renovating a house and am finding when buying stuff that more than expected is faulted and needs to be returned. If card refunds are made will Tandem send me payment for those?

And another question: I have happily signed up to AMEX everyday but would like another cashback card, even if paying lower than 0.5% for where AMEX is not accepted. My income is not so high so could I be putting my "perfect" credit score at risk by applying for another card so soon after?
Thank you for your help, and sorry there are so many questions,
    Peter

I've stopped spending on the card going of what the other people said about the cashback.i received this today in an email. If your balance is repaid by 9th March 2020, we will close your card for you on that date. If you wait until after 9th March 2020 to repay your balance in full, you may have to wait up to a week for your card to be officially closed.
  • I contacted Tandem and they confirmed that card can be used until 9 Mar and will receive the cashback too, the statement will be generated for the transactions made till 9th Mar and will be sent on the app to settle, so if there is a direct debit linked it can be settled from there.  I hope this is helpful.

I received my email reminder about the card being withdrawn on 9th March, and like many others have decided that it isn't worth the £6 a month fee to keep it.

Something I have noticed today though is an anomaly with my spending.
Last month, I manually paid off the card in full just before the direct debit was due.
Unfortunately, this was a little bit too late to prevent the direct debit coming out also.
This put the card in credit by about £185.
Not a problem I thought, just spend on the card until the balance is zero and before 9th March.

I know a couple of days ago, my card was still showing about £60 in credit
I filled up the car (not pay at pump) on my way home today, spending £35.23.

My account now shows C/C balance of zero (as it should as I am still in credit), but the amount available is showing the £35.23 less than my total credit limit.

    Am I missing something??

  • can you see your transaction list since you paid paid off the card in full and notice any unknown transaction? just by seeing all the transactions you should tally up
