...... I appreciate that not everyone will spend as much as £2k per month on their Credit Card. However if you are likely to spend at least £10k per year (£833.33 per month) then look at the AMEX Platinum Everyday Cashback Card that has no fee.

This will give you 5% Cashback during the first 3 months up to a maximum of £100.00 and then 1% thereafter, so a further £75.00, plus if you apply through Quidco you’ll also get an extra £15.00 Cashback from them. Therefore, in year one you make £190 in Cashback compared to just £50.00 if you spent £10k with Tandem. In subsequent years a £10k spend will net you £100.00 in Cashback, again compared to £50.00 with Tandem.(Please note that if you don’t quite manage to reach £10k of spending in a year then you would receive 0.5% Cashback rather than 1%) the same as Tandem’s is now.

It really is a "NO BRAINER". Ditch Tandem and move to AMEX.

It's not really a no-brainer. Amex isn't as universally accepted.
And a lot of people on these forums spend a lot less than you.

For me it's a no-brainer for me to NOT go to AMEX. I don't spend, via credit card, anything like your spend (I don't even earn that much! - not even half that much!) or even the lower spend you suggest for other people.

Yes I can. I use the app on Android and it works fine with the limit set at £0.

Working for me now - don't know why it wasn't before.

I have got their App up and running on my phone where I can instantly check our transactions, but unfortunately at this time they do not give immediate notifications of transactions like Tandem or send text messages. However I have already recommended this to their Customer Services who thought it was a great idea and they will be looking into it.
If you have an iPhone and add it to Apple Wallet, it gives instant notifications on all (not just Apple) spends.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

I have had a response to my review on another site which I want to share

Hi there, it's important that as a business we create sustainable offerings that meet the financial needs of our target customers. We know that the Tandem Membership is a great plan for a lot of people but also appreciate that it may not be right for others. We have made changes to our system and you are now able to apply for a Journey card if you wish. However please be aware that this card does have different features, APRs and available credit limits, you can find out more details on our website

[FONT=&quot]So I and many of the people who have taken time to become a customer and have a cashback credit card account for quite a while, in my case for a year, are NOT Tandem's target customers. However Tandem have made changes to their system's so as a non target customer I can apply for their Journey card. Wow how screwed up is that I cannot believe they have put that in a review reply

Why do people expect Tandem to provide a loss making product indefinitely? Loss leaders are to draw the customers in. Tandem are in business to make money.

This opportunity has finished. Move on and stop griping.

I have just messaged Tandem, and can confirm that you can now apply for the Journey card once your cashback card is paid off and the credit agreement has ended.
They do stress though, that it is a new application and subject to the usual credit checks.

Not ideal, but better than nothing I suppose.

Today I had a play around with the AMEX App on my iPhone and in spite of what their Customer Services said about not being able to receive instant notications of purchases I stumbled upon the screen where you can turn on the Notification of Purchases. Then following my first purchase at a Supermarket the notification popped up on the phone in under 15 seconds.

Apologies for the slight error in my earlier figures. As rightly pointed out the higher 1.25% Cashback on the AMEX Card doesn't kick in until your spending has reached £10k.

Therefore if you spend £2500 in the first 3 months to get the £125.00 cashback, the next £7500 will get you £75 rather than £93.75. So for the Annual figures I gave please subtract £18.75.

This is still much better than the Cashback fromTandem.

For foreign travel I use a Santander Zero Credit Card which has no fee, there are no charges when paying in a foreign currency and you can even withdraw cash without any fees. However Interest would be charged from day 1 on cash withdrawals. BUT this can be avoided if on the same day that you withdraw the cash you make a faster payment from your bank into your Zero Credit Card Account. I believe this is now one of the very best cards for using abroad.

Checkout the Santander Zero Card, which I referred to in my last post. I think it's even better for paying in a foreign currency.

Looks like Aqua have pulled their Reward card now :(

    Their website is showing:
"We're sorry but the Aqua Reward Card is no longer available"

Maybe they've had an influx of new applications from disgruntled Tandem customers.

I can't imagine it's merely a coincidence. Glad I got mine in time, but a little concerned this could result in changes to the terms of the cashback offer.
