You can pay your Tandem Credit Card at any time. You don't need to wait for a statement. You can easily spend much more than your credit limit each month if you want to or need to.

I do this frequently when I have large purchases to make - when I pay for example £2000 off via my online banking it is credited to my Tandem card within seconds, along with the change in available balance.

I've got the remaining £6500 of a summer holiday to pay off in mid-Feb, so will be part-paying the outstanding holiday balance with my Tandem card, paying it off immediately via my online banking and then paying the remaining balance onto Tandem again to make over £30 cashback. Won't exactly pay for the holiday, but worthwhile for a few minutes effort!
  • I have a £6k limit so am tempted to stooze up to this into the saving account and pay off when I need to use the card. I can changed my DD from full to min payment (I assume you still have to pay each month???). This way I won't pay any fee and will still benefit from the cashback. The problem is I will be wanting to remortgage in around a year, so will having a continuous balance and only paying min be an issue for this?

I applied and was accepted for an Aqua Reward Card with the (lowest!) APR of 34.9% and the (highest!) initial credit limit of £1,200. Hopefully the limit will be increased reasonably quickly as there is the odd month where I put through £4k ish in overseas spend. I don't go over £20k in a year so the £100 cashback limit shouldn't be a issue.

My combination of BA Amex for all possible UK spend, and Tandem for anywhere in the UK that didn't take Amex, plus all overseas spend worked well, so hopefully there will be no real change with my new setup. I also have Starling which I use for any overseas ATM use. The only slight difference with Aqua is it looks like the payment due date is round 10 days earlier so you don't get quite so long to pay the balance off before being charged interest. Anything I've missed?

I will report back re: how long it takes to get a credit increase - based on other posts on the forum it looks like anywhere between 2-4 months. I will have a 4.5k cruise balance to pay in August, and the travel agent does not take Amex, so hopefully the limit will be increased a bit, otherwise I will have to do it as 4 separate payments.

I got my Aqua card 6 months ago. Same APR and initial limit as you. Sorry to say I have not an increase yet. still sitting at £1200.
  • For those struggling, crypto.com has just launched their debit card in Europe. It's like Monzo / Revolut, except comes with 3% cashback (depending on tier - 1.5 - 5% back), and free access to lounges / netflix / spotify etc. Shout out if you want a referral!

I'm not putting up with crappy limits on aqua cards or capital one (which i have), or having to use multiple cards with crappy limits.

    Key word.... DEBIT card.
  • Key word.... DEBIT card.

Top up via curve linked to a credit card.

I'll get 0.5% cashback on barclaycard, and another 3% back on any spend on the card. I don't pay the bill until my Barclaycard is due. Effort is negligible. And, I get free netflix + spotify + 18% interest on certain cryptos, 4% interest on bitcoin holdings, and free airport lounge access.

    Easy. Worth it.

No interest EVER. mmmm? Then they say CURRENT interest rates are..... and any changes will have 60 days notice. I don't know how all that will stack up. A screenshot of no interest EVER might be a wise move.

However, with quite a high credit limit that I have, I can rack up £4800 debt fairly quickly. I then use the 0% interest. If I reduce my payments to the minimum (currently just 1% plus interest, plus fees) I can make it cost neutral by putting that £4800 into their linked account. Additionally, I can make use of their market leading 1.5% instant access rate for some more of my cash savings.

    The downsides:
I lose £4800 of my spending limit.
    It's a faff.
Will they survive if everyone does this? This could expose the vulnerability of their "market leading" savings rate.

    Have I missed something here?
  • The John Lewis card, as well as giving 'cashback' (in the form of JL/Waitrose vouchers) gives you instant notifications. It can be linked to Curve, Samsung Pay, etc etc. Obviously, don't use it abroad - fees etc.

Roughly what amount do you put through a month on your card?
