And the other side spot the coin is that there are thousands and thousands of loving and capable foster parents in this country who proved good role models, care, , support and stability without drama.Norn Iron Club member 4736

So I am not fit to look after my grandchildren is what you are saying?
would you like to speak to the school? The nursery? The health visitor?
luckily for me they are of a different opinion.
my boys are well, happy, they are improving, their speech and language is above average and the autistic child is thriving. Thank you.
they are clean, well dressed, well fed and happy giggling children most of the time.
yes they have tantrums occasionally, or a melt down. Many children do.
I hope that you are never in my position or ever become a social worker, you would have the children all in orphanages.!
who says that I will never drive the campervan?
it only needs the brakes sorting. I can have that done when I am good and ready. If I decide not too, it is non of your concern. Where my money goes is up to me.
How dare you say that I am not fit to look after these children. I was scrutinised by Social to the nth degree. They the court guardian and the courts say differently.
I am angry beyond words.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.8 -
Indeed there are & they don't get enough thanks/recognition for what they do.Artytarty said:And the other side spot the coin is that there are thousands and thousands of loving and capable foster parents in this country who proved good role models, care, , support and stability without drama.

I am very sad that this has become a 'kick Savvy when she is down' conversation. It is easy for us all to have opinions about what she should/could do, but none of us are walking in her shoes. It's not difficult!
'Wander' - to walk or move in a leisurely manner.
'Wonder' - to feel curious.6 -
And how much do the foster parents get in grants and allowances? Any more or less than you begrudge Ss getting?Artytarty said:And the other side spot the coin is that there are thousands and thousands of loving and capable foster parents in this country who proved good role models, care, , support and stability without drama.1 -
And I for one, am angry on your behalf Ss! Far too easy to criticise from a comfortable sofa, in a peaceful environment, with a nice glass of wine, or a quiet cup of tea in front of you. As I've said before, there but for the Grace of God ........Savvy_sewing said:So I am not fit to look after my grandchildren is what you are saying?

If you re read my post you will see that I have made no mention of the financial aspect of this whatsoever.thorsoak said:

No, you didn't. But the cost of fostering is breathtaking - it is advertised more and more as a career choice, and the rates are "On average, national Private (Independent) Fostering Agencies pay a basic weekly fostering allowance and fee of £450 per week, for all ages of foster children. The payment is generally the same for short and long term placements."Artytarty said:

And these fees are paid by local government and by default, by the taxpayer.3 -
That's interesting, where I am the local authority rate is about half that. Speaking from experience.
my comment was a reaction to the suggestion that foster care was not suitable because of what happened in Rochdale.Norn Iron Club member 4732 -
All I did was google "what is the foster allowance per child in the UK in 2020"1
