Well, check all of the above!

    Eaten today -

breakfast - orange juice, 1 croissant
snack - little choc cake, straw yogurt
lunch - small goats cheese salad
dinner - omlette with beans and a few chips (dont even really like chips much but my dinner looked abit measly so added a few).

that cant be that bad, can it?? tried to cut down the carbs abit. am NOT gonna snack tonight - or drink wine - am not and not an not!!

the boys have got a place on swimming lessons which they're keen to do, and I think are important, so I've decided that they've have to give up one of their other clubs. 2 a week is enough I think. I talked to them about it and surprise surprise, they both want to give up football. Dale's not happy about it as he thinks they'll appreciate the football skills later on but the fact is that neither of them are good at it or enjoy it all that much, so whats the point? Plus each club costs £40 a month so I think 2 a week is enough from a financial point of view and otherwise. They've got homework and some nights just like to come home from school and chill - so do I tbh! Hope its the right thing to do.

american idol night today - yey! God, a bet anyone reading this thinks I have a well sad little life!

ps - hey SI! Did you go on that walk??

Evening! A gone off to work for a night shift so can now get on laptop and post.

    Food update first...(not good!)

    Yesterday -
Breakfast - 2 slices wholegrain toast and marmalade
Lunch - Chicken and Pasta bake (micro tescos healthy living)
Dinner - Fish finger sarnies in wholegrain bread.
    Snacks - few sweets...oops.

    Today -
    Breakfast - hot chocolate
Lunch - sweet and sour chicken with boiled rice (small portions) I was in London and went out with friends - me thinks that is allowed???
Dinner -pasta with tomatoe sauce & garlic bread
    Snack - mini sausage roll.

Exercise.....bad bad girl! None! Although trapsed around London, tubes, buses etc. Must do something tomorrow, maybe the gym at lunch or an exercise dvd.

A and I planning a walk on Saturday, possibly 10 miles. Must be good with the eating tomorrow.

Now onto other bits. Well done you for completing all your list of things to do! As for the boys clubs, if they don't really like football then it's probably better that they do something they enjoy now. I am sure like most boys in a couple of years they'll change and want to play the old football again - not to mention wanting to watch it! Don't envy you in the all male environment...will keep fingers crossed for a girl :-)

I watch American Idol at the weekends on ITV2 - although have missed the past couple of weekends.

Had to go into London today for some fraud training, really struggled as haven't had to go in for a good few weeks and getting up at 5am was very hard. It was great to see colleagues etc but I now know why I opted for home working. I really don't think I could go back to the 5-7 day commutes and having no life mon to fri and only really wanting to sleep at weekends. I think today reminded me.

Hope you have had a nice evening and managed not to pick. I have purposly got into bed (early I know!) with the laptop, todays Times and 2 mags in an attempt to not eat any more food. I know what I am like when A is on nights, I get bored and comfort eat. Can be very lonely at times I can tell you.

before i say anything else - ladies do you want feedback on your daily food intake ?

im happy to give feedback if you want it - but im also happy to zip it too !! LOL

i work as a massage therapist - freelance and a gym instructor partime but i also work on reception at the gym on an as and when basis....

since i had an op in early jan - tummy tuck- had to take 6 weeks off massage work - well all work - but seem to have to lost most of my clients !! how careless !! to be fair i can see how - credit crunch and all that we are having to watch the pennies ourselves and massage wold be the first thing to go i guess as a luxury

anyway - someone from the reception team has just handed her notice in - 17.5 hrs a week mon pm all day thurs and fri am - im going to apply !! i had a very positive 6 month review last week - my boss actually said if she had 6 more of me shed be thrilled !!
im just concerned about the children - and school holidays
i dont mind leaving them now for single shifts - 4.5 hrs - they are 10 and 12 and i work 5 mins from home - more often they come and use the pool or gym or something anyway

well i guess it will be sorted if i get it - i really want it - hub lost 12-14k a year in bonus's so this will really help - omg tho what if i get it ??!!

Yes please Daisy!!! That would be great as long as you don't mind. I am one of those people that binge diet/exercises and really want to get out of that habit. I loose say 1/2 a stone or something and feel good and then just go back to old habits and before I know it I have put weight back on and more. Vicious cycle - I guess you see it a lot.

I have also now started working from home which means I hardly move all day apart from to walk to the kitchen etc. Going from commuting to London on trains, tubes, buses and walking etc to leaving my bedroom to the living room is a big change and I know it's taking it's toll!! I guess I have taken to being lazy easily :-(

Good luck on the job application - I am sure you will work it out with the kids and like you say they will probable be down visiting you and using the pool anyway and likely to do it more often if you are working there.

daisy, I know how hard the kids/work dilemma is - though I think at 10 and 12 they're
at an age now where they dont need or even want (harsh I know but I have it coming!) around all the time.

I think it sounds like a great job/hours etc - and if the full day bothers you in the school hols then you could always arrange for them to go to a holiday club for that one day. I say go for it!

and yes please with the food feedback - although - I think i prob know that my eating habits arent the best in the world - I just like food and salads/fruit and veg turn me right off whereas cheese and carbs yum yum! :o

Hey SI -you're diet doesnt sound bad to me - its not like we're eating choc and crisps all day long, and at least its a mini sausage roll but a huge one - everything in moderation, right?. this losing weight lark is sooo difficult. Anyway, I'm going to bootcamp you and say get some exercise done lady!! could you do 15mins of something in your lunch hour when you're at home? The only trouble then is you've got to shower/whatever and thats your lunch hour gone. God, I'm talking myself out of it here! :rotfl:

Anyways, I'm aching from the other day, cos I've not done the dvd in ages. Need to stick to it this time so feel free to whip my butt!

Got a friend coming to visit with her little girls today so that'll be nice to have a catch up. Hopefully we'll go out for a walk down the greenway.

ps SI - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a girl too. Its truly awful - I hardly dare even imagine it because i do want it so desperately.

  • Hey,

Mmm, that's my problem. Eating everything in moderation. I am trying to be good since we decided to embark on this challenge between us but prior to this I would think nothing of going and buy a large bar of mint aero and eating the lot through an afternoon. I hate to think how many calories that would amount too! Also last week I had 4 takeaways in total for various reasons - not diet friendly or DFW really is it now?? Oops. I am really hoping that this mutual support and guidance from Daisy (thanks Daisy!!) we'll stick at it.

I know exercise is my downfall and I am sure if I just stuck at something then the I would tone up in no time. All talk and no action me, plus I have a gym membership so wasting money if I don't go. I can have anything up to 2 hours for lunch so might start making it a plan to do something then or better still get up and do something in the morning. Maybe a run - I did do the Great South Run last October (10miles)and finished it running the whole thing. I was really proud of myself even though I wasn't particularly fit and didn't train properly I still pushed myself to do it - took 2 hours though!! Still I think if I can run 10 miles then the least I should do is get out of bed and run a couple of times a week even if only for 15 mins.

Gosh sorry went on a bit there. See working from home does nothing for me except yap when posting here. A is fast asleep in bed as got home 8am this morning.

Hope you have a good day today.

Daisy - do you know when interviews will be for the job?

I'm currently on the weight loss thing to and determined to stick to it this time. I've found portion control to be one of the best things you can do. Instead of having a whole plate of pasta carbonara for example cut your portion in half and have lots of veg on the side. You cut out a lot of calories but providing you have plenty of veg you won't go hungry. I now make sure at least 1/2 of our meals are salad or non-starchy vegetables. I always plod through the veg first to make sure it gets eaten!
I also have something light and healthy such as a bowl of homemade vegetable soup or a corn on the cob about an hour before tea, this takes the edge of the hunger so you are less likely to wolf your dinner down without it touching the sides.
For breakfast I eat a bowl of fruit first before getting onto the stuff I really like, by leaving it 10-15 minutes again you won’t be as hungry and likely to eat 2 croissants for example.
Orange juice is packed full of calories, try mixing ½ and ½ with fizzy water or just having a smaller glass.
Things like mixing mince half and half with soya mince cuts fat, calories and cost, just keep quiet and your OH is unlikely to notice or complain. When making cheese based sauces use parmesan instead of cheddar etc, as it has a stronger flavour you need to use less therefore less calories. I've also had a lot of success with cutting out fats/oils and sugar in recipes. Try cutting quantities in half and then only a little bit extra if things aren't going to plan. Go through your regular recipes and see what changes you can make to save calories without losing taste.
I'd recommend making a list of veg/fruit that you do like and also a list of healthy recipes that appeal, search recipes on the internet and restaurant menus for lots of ideas. If you've got a good list of tasty recipes that don't scream diet and deprivation your less likely to quit.
Its not a quick way to lose weight, I’m going at about 1-2lb a week (10 down 14 to go) but its sustainable and a healthy way to eat for life.
    Good luck!

hey all - had a lovely catch up with my friend, she's embarking on a new career at 30+ with 2 kids and everything seems to be falling into place for her now so I'm really pleased 4 her and proud of her!

Not the best day for the diet thou -

brekkie - orange juice (small glass), 2 crumpets
lunch - 1 cheese salad sandwich (wholemeal), 1 pack french fries, half a choc muffin
drinks - 3 x coffee  I normally have decaf but she didnt havent and I have a massive headache now!!

Not sure what to have for tea - kids have been grazing all day with their little friends so only me and d to do for - maybe jackets with tuna sweetcorn (no mayo!!) would be ok. No wine for me tonight as non in the house!

Min - thanks for the tips - I think you are right, thats what I need to do, portion control! I wont feel deprived that way - its a good idea. congrats on the weight loss!

Hi SI, yeah i used to buy family sized bars of choc too - thankfully, i dont have the same appetite anymore, but its not hard to see how the weight piled on!! Did you get the flat??

  • If you dont buy it you cant eat it. Have some will power for 1 hour when you do a food shop and you'll be sorted for a week. Buy plenty of fruit for between meals.
