My local Virgin Money branch was handing out mince pies.

I did see the mince pies. I was offered tea or coffee which I refused as I drink neither, but I was not offered a mince pie.

I guess I could have asked.

All went smoothly with opening my branch account - I went in a day earlier than my appointment and was able to open my account with no problem and then went in the next day with a cheque and got my passbook.

Was impressed with the service. The person I dealt with was someone who used to work for the Derbyshire Building Society before it closed in our town - we recognised each other.

For people who open lots of new accounts do you always have to provide certified documents and if you don't know anyone who can certify them is there a way of getting them done for free? I was just about to open a 3% Tesco account but it almost feels pointless when it's going to take three months just to recoup the cost of having documents certified at the post office.
Check you are on the electoral register. Also check a few credit reports (Noddle and ClearScore are free) to ensure the details held by them match the details you are providing on applications.

Last call for Nottingham RS Issue 2 and SportsAid saver, as I've been told they will close on 4 Jan. Similar products at 1.4 and 2.5% will be launched the day after.

You will be able to have all the issues and still pay into the old ones.

An update to the post from steve65e.

SportsAid .. this will be pulled on 28-12-2016.

RegSaver(2) .. The branch has no info on a replacement.

NEW: Tigers Regular Saver @ 2.5% available from 04-01-2017 and runs till June 2018.

When does this close for new applicants please - as per Steves post or 28/12/16 as per the Sportsaid?

My understanding is that it is not closing .. hence no replacement.

    steve65e might know different.

I recently opened a Virgin Regular E-Saver Issue 2 which I thought was 2.25% interest. But on my account it shows a 0.10% interest. Ive messaged them but no reply. Is this the same as anyone else.
I already have issue 1, but thought was able to have issue 2 as well.

    tia :)
  • It wont show 2.25% until your first payment has cleared. You are allowed one of each issue.
  • Hi Folks,

I note patientperson's entry above about Nottingham BS accounts and I will update accordingly next weekend.

I cannot find anything else that has changed for this week.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and for anybody who does not celebrate these then I would simply wish you a great really long bank holiday weekend.

I will do another update next weekend.

I thought the same about the letter - nice touch. But I'll be keeping my Issue 3 until the 2.3% rate ends. I can't see anywhere offering more (that I don't aleady have open), especially considering I've maxed out all the current accounts.

I'm currently away so haven't read my letter yet.

From what i've read here the Issue 3 rate will drop to 2.3% in Feb and no new deposits will be allowed, then Oct/Nov it will revert to an 'online saver' type of account paying minuscule interest?

What is happening therefore with the Issue 4?
