I opened a Nottingham BS Regular saver and a Special saver recently in branch, having moved into the area.
Just 10 days later, when I wanted to open Special Saver 2, I had to go into branch again, with my ID, again, to sign up for the new account.
I was told that they were tightening up on procedures from that very day, and she would lose her job if she failed to follow procedures.

Same as what I was told then. They were aware of accounts being opened without people being in the branch and head office have tightened up account opening procedures accordingly. The member of staff I saw mentioned there was concern about ID checks/verification to prevent fraud/ID theft and money laundering regulations being complied with. She also stated that issue 2 may be withdrawn soon and an issue 3 only available in any of their newer branches (as issue 1 was originally intended for Wisbech).
  • Hi Folks,

    Here is this weekend's update.

    - Nottingham BS Robin Hood Young Saver (Issue 2) can now only be opened by branch (it was previously advertised on their website as available by post or branch)

    - Note added to all Nottingham BS accounts on the first page of this thread saying that it is no longer possible to open branch only accounts by sending an application form to a branch, as reported by several forum users

    - Derbyshire BS Platinum Saver (Issue 11) moved from post 3 to post 7 as this account now has less than 12 months until the maturity date

I will do another update next weekend.

Yes, I am an existing customer. I have a Christmas Saver account, which is due to mature next month.

Did you speak to a member of staff at the branch prior to sending off your application form?

I didn't speak to a member of staff prior to sending off my application form this time, but this was the same branch that opened issue 1 for me earlier in the year.

The same adviser that opened that account called me last week to let me know that they had sent me out their updated application form (the form I had sent in is apparently not used any more). I was to sign and return it and because they had my (maturing) Summer Saver passbook, they would use that as ID in opening the new account.

Going by what other posters have said above, it looks like it will be much more difficult to get any of their new branch-based accounts opened in future. I wish that they would make their accounts available to existing members to open by post, in the same way that Saffron building society do.

Just hope when my Nottingham Xmas saver matures, they give me the option to open a new one by post.

I have my doubts if they will be offering another product in its place. I assumed that the Special Saver 2 was the replacement for this.

    I hope I am wrong

I'd be surprised if Issue 2 lasts until the end of the month. I think we'll see a Christmas Saver released in November but I'll guess at a slightly reduced rate from last year (just speculating)...

Chorley BS 18 month Sunshine Saver Iss 1 passbook received, opening date 1 October :T

Unfortunately, the account is in the name of '09 Badger' instead of 'badger 09' (ie Surname First name) :o

    Why thank you kind sir.

I phoned them yesterday afternoon to point out the error. I'm not concerned about the passbook, but could foresee potential future problems when as badger09, I try to withdraw my funds;)

Letter arrived this morning, apologising for the error and assuring me they have corrected my name on their records. Speedy service, now that they've presumably dealt with the deluge of applications :rotfl:
  • Have to say my experience with the Chorley, has also been excellent.

They sent me an email on the Friday to contact them regarding my application. I initially assumed it was to tell me I'd missed out. But when I rang, they told me I'd forgotten to put my date of birth on the application. They corrected this for me over the phone.

Then on the Monday I got another email, again asking me to contact them. This time the lady told me I'd forgotten to sign my opening cheque:doh::doh:

Instead of placing my application in the little round filing system at the end of her desk, they waited until i sent another cheque.

Account now opened and passbook (plus redundant cheque) received.

Most impressed with them and not with myself.
