I am interested in opening the 5% Special Saver with Nottingham BS. I am driving from Watford to Yorkshire along the M1 on Tuesday so I can call into any branch along the way. Is there a particular branch I should choose or avoid? For example, because they either are very familiar or not familiar at all with the product?

Groby or Shepshed seem convenient enough.

I intend to phone up tomorrow to make an appointment.

Agency branches, BB, might not accept Standing Orders.

Groby is tiny, I had to wait a week for an appointment. You might have to ring around a few branches, good luck! (Might be worth you opening a 3.1% regular saver at the same time as a spare account! min £10/month max £250).

Make sure you like the further deposit and also the withdrawal options (I don't know what they are). If you have to rock up in Groby etc, it might become a very expensive way to keep a few hundred quid for a year.

Aren't agencies just acting as a shop window? I thought that all savings accounts were managed centrally? Surely bank transfers are cheaper for them than physically paying cash over a counter?

No issues with future deposits. I opened accounts in Groby and you can deposit cash and cheques over the counter, use standing orders or bank transfers using the details they give you when you open your account. No issues at all with the bank transfers I've sent (faster payments).

The only 'issue' is that even existing customers cannot open further accounts without visiting the branch, hence my advice to consider whether it's worth opening their other regular saver whilst there.

I had issues with Saffron BS over this. My nearest 'branch' was an agency.....passbook only.

Can't see this mentioned in the opening posts.

Kent Reliance have a 4% Regular Saver which is branch based only.

12 months with maximum £500 deposit per calendar month.

    More information here.

Kent Reliance (Building Society) = KRBS. Has been listed for years on this thread.

I can understand people being confused though. They are no longer a Building Society. They still use the KRBS name but it now stands for Kent Reliance Banking Services and their main trading name is now simply "Kent Reliance" (although the web site is still https://www.krbs.com)

Kent Reliance Building Society became Kent Reliance Provident Society in 2010. The Building Society business was transferred to KRBS, part of a new company called One Savings Bank plc. The new company was a joint venture, with KRPS having the majority share and private equity firm JC Flowers owning 40%. The new bank was floated on the LSE in June this year. Athough there is still an element of mutuality, the bank is now partly owned by shareholders who get dividends.

It would probably be appropriate to change the reference on the first page from KRBS to Kent Reliance.
