Don't you mean you might be earning 5% on £750 and 4% on £750? Not the same as 9% on £1500!
It's the same £750, so could earn a total of 18p minus tax a day, instead of just 11p minus tax per day in the 5% account. So about 5p - 6p a day extra after tax. Huge challenge what to do with all that extra money0 -
Also, received a phone call from Nottingham BS yesterday. They are going to open the 5.00% Special Saver (issue 2) for me via the post. Fantastic service from both building societies.
You must be in their good books. Everytime I've tried to open a branch-based Nottingham account by post they've rejected it and said I've got to go to a branch!0 -

I've never been to one of their branches, but have successfully had six accounts opened by post by them in recent years.
A senior Nottingham BS manager told me that they had plans to extend their branch network by using some of the Harrision Murray estate agencies (which they've purchased) as an agency office, though they're not ready yet. Please call me 'Kazza'.0 -

Do you send your application forms to head office? If I do that, they invariably send it back with a letter saying the account is branch-based only.0 -

Isn't it standard for banks and building societies to normally pay interest from the 2nd working day after the cheque is credited?
I did say I recevied both passbooks. We opened two accounts with cheques from Lloyds 4% current account so £1500 in total.0 -

Sometimes it's worth emailing individual branches to see if they would open by post.
A couple of years ago, Derbyshire had a platinum 5% branch only regular saver account. Their website had all the individual branch email addresses so I email about 20 branches. 19 replied no but one said yes! The manageress even emailed me everytime a new issue was launched (a new issue was launched every month) and we ended up with about 12 x 5% regular savers!0 -

I remember these accounts but as you say, they were branch-based too so never considered doing that. Do/did the Derbyshire have online banking/access to your account? Are they know essentially Nationwide so can you access your accounts through their online banking? Have the accounts changed?0 -

No, I don't send my applications to head office. I have tried a number of Nottingham BS branches and they've always complied.Speculator wrote: »Sometimes it's worth emailing individual branches to see if they would open by post.

Yeah, it's always worth a punt. It's a shame that they've reduced the latest offering to 3%, but if they do start running these accounts again, much more people will be able to open them directly via a Nationwide branch (since both Derbyshire and Cheshire building societies) are becoming part of Nationwide. Please call me 'Kazza'.0 -

No, it was strictly branch operated so I had to send it to the branch on maturity. Had a slight problem when my final account matured because they had changed managers. The new manageress was surprised that I had managed to open it by post and was reluctant to allow me to close it by post.0
