I agree with everything that's already been said.Your house is not only your home, it's also the biggest investment you'll probably ever make, so try and look on the cost as savings, because you're adding value to your home and have the benefit of being able to enjoy a beautiful bathroom.(((hugs))) XI Believe.....

Thanks everyone. As you may be able to tell from my sudden silence for a few days, it has been weighing very heavily on my mind. I worked so hard to get us out of debt from 2010 to 2015, and here I am again, with almost as much debt as I had then, except just me on my own this time. I have plans to pay it back asap but the simple fact is that it's a massive amount of money. Never mind though, as you've all said, it's not like I've bought a golden tiger for the garden or anything. We don't have another bathroom in the house and I fret every time that I go in the shower that I'm going to collapse through the floor, like the film The Money Pit for those that remember it. I used to love a long soak in the bath, but I have a good idea of what the actual mass of the bath is when it's full of me and a bath full of water and I just don't have that much confidence. I feel quite extravagant because I've chosen a nice shower and a massive bath that I will hopefully enjoy a good soak in once this terrible mess is all over with.
Carrots still sitting in the fridge but I had forgotten how much I enjoy coleslaw so will definitely make some of that. And I may just treat myself to a cake as well. The day started well - did all of my school work then my online meeting. Then helped dd to research some post-16 choices as that is what she's been set for work this week. Then I accidentally power napped for about 15 minutes and have woken up feeling 'ugh' again. No further decluttering done and I have some exam work that is getting urgent so I'd better pull myself round quickly. At least the sun is out for the first time in ages.

Yeah, but like you, I need an urgent bathroom renovation, and I have just discovered a load of dead furniture beetles in the upstairs loo, on the white floor tiles. There is no wood in there. It is a mystery - except if they are in there, they are probably bl00dy everywhere. Joy!

'except just me on my own this time' - yeah, but you were the only one bringing in the money to pay the debt down then. So don't you dare go apportioning any credit to him for helping with it... Just sayin'.

Bailey_Babe has summed it up so neatly. Sending commiserations re the bathroom but remember this is a hiccup not a crisis and you will so enjoy having a long soak when it`s all done! We` re all going to be madly jealous, you do realize that!
Lady Luck never did have a good idea of timing which is why I`m currently replacing my garden shed which has more holes than cheese! All the tools are in my house at the moment which is a nuisance! And more rain in the forecast!11
