Are DS and DD ok @CCL? Your last post was that they had to isolate, hope all you and yours are ok, and you are just overworked but healthy, and are enjoying your half term.

Morning
Apologies that I haven’t checked in properly all week. I’ve been working hard in terms of exam work and trying to finish up some crochet stuff in the run up to festivities. Feel like I’ve barely had time to turn round.
I’ve unfortunately been forced to stop for a bit though as I’ve somehow managed to impale my hand on a meat fork. All superficial but very sore in terms of going out anywhere driving, doing any crochet etc. I’m devastated and quite uncomfortable but always a survivor.
Still in bed at the moment as I didn’t sleep well last night and making the most of my last proper day off. So I’m quickly checking in from my phone - I’ll get online later and give you a proper update.
So sorry I’ve been so quiet all week... xNot giving up

I was going to say it was good to "see" you , I was worried, but gosh, please look after yourself.
I see you want to get the most from your last day off but the most profitable thing may be a rest. The next half term is likely to be full on .10 -

Hello
Still not enough hours in the day for everything that I need to do unfortunately. The impaled hand needed a quick trip to minor injuries in the end because I was struggling with pain in one of my fingers from it (on the back of my hand though weirdly enough). Still just superficial but I wanted to get it checked and get some heavy duty painkillers - which then duly knocked me out for a couple of days and suddenly it was Monday again and Doris is shutting the country down again except not me and mine. No change to any of us. I feel doubly guilty that I stocked up on loo roll on Friday, but f0xh0les will vouch for me - they sell 4x packs of 18 for £12 with the sleeping duck on, in the farm of frozen foods, and I was down to my last 6 so needed to stock up anyway as I hadn't bought any since July...
Exam work is going well, although goodness knows what point there is in prepping and planning for next summer because we don't even know if it's going to happen. Sucks - but I genuinely think that some sort of standardised assessment is needed. Who knows how my assessed Grade 5 compares with a grade 5 from any other school in the country? It's a horrible time for all concerned at the moment, but I'm very much on the side of needing to keep the schools open. People who have no experience of kids living in poverty, or in abuse, don't seem to think it's a real thing - but it definitely is. There are a significant number of children that need the break from their home life. And on top of that, home learning is completely ineffective anyway. Kids don't engage in it, don't want to do anything, think that there's no point because there won't be any exams. We are working much harder than the kids are at the moment that's for sure.
School is very stressful, and I work in a good school that cares for its staff. Trouble is that the guidance is so poor and open to interpretation, and there's so much expectation about what the teachers will provide with no emphasis on the fact that the kids should be expected to do the work at the end of it all. I wouldn't mind doing it if the kids would do what is asked of them, rather than just expecting that we'll catch them up once they're back in the classroom. It will be a miracle if I get through this half term without another little meltdown - everyone is so fractious - even the people I rely on to keep me grounded when it's all getting a bit much.
And then on top of that, dd is still as stressed as ever about staying on top of her work. I haven't been able to get near the laptop for most of half term week, and she still thinks that she's not doing enough... her mocks started today and I really, really hope that they go well. She's definitely wanting to do English at college and has started trying to read some of the books on the list in her 'relaxation' time. I'm still desperately trying to finish crocheting a blanket.
Also probably better that I don't mention my dire financial situation either. It seems to keep getting worse no matter how hard I try. I will manage though.
