Crazy Cat Lady Chapter 4 - The Aftermath

Yes f0xh0les - that is my new living room rug. He just blends in wonderfully with it too doesn't he? I cannot understand at all - the breeder tells me that his tabby markings are a bit too much to make him a proper 'show cat', and everyone wants blue anyway. Nope. I have wanted a cream BSH since I was 20 and lived with a couple that had a blue one. Such friendly kitties... It was a foregone conclusion that I would get him if he was left at the end of the month but I didn't think for a second he would still be there at the end of the month. Who would leave him behind? Anyway, I am calling it fate - although I do feel as though I have a small child in the house again. He's into everything and really attention seeking. Thankfully the kids are in love and doing more than their fair share with him - unfortunately when it was just him and me this morning I couldn't get much done because there was a teeny thing chasing my feet everywhere. And we have some way to go with the other cats, although two of them will now be in the same room as the kitten as long as he stays away from them.
He's so cute and sweet and little and fluffy and playful, and I will do early mornings if dd is up late with him. She stayed up with him last night after midnight then left him in the living room and I didn't hear a thing - he was still asleep under the table when I got up this morning but not for long
So my plans for the day were many but haven't come to much. I crossed two jobs off the frog list and washed the dishes but that was as far as I got with tiny paws wanting to be into everything. When dd eventually got up at about 11am I went out into the garden to move stuff to the car for our latest trip to the recycling centre this afternoon. I was flattening out some cardboard when I heard someone shouting for me from the bottom of the garden. It was the lady that lives there (she's in her 60s and I always liked her it's just her son who lives there that I don't like). I thought she was going to have a go at me about the fence but she asked me if I wanted to extend my washing line around the pole in her garden now the shed was gone. I said thankyou but I was going to get the fence sorted out first. We went on to have a long chat about the man that used to live here before me (she remembers him putting the fence up and knocking her fence down without permission) and the problems she has with her neighbours on one side of her. We were on for over an hour chatting (always did like her, but she got sick and her son moved in and then everything went wrong) and the long and short of it is that she has agreed to go halves on the new fence with me. Happy days - I'd better get onto it then I suppose.
Then I finished packing up the car for the tip. Managed to get into it 9 cans of paint, a microwave, tv, lawn mower, leftover wood from Friday, all the cardboard packaging from my bed and bedroom furniture, a binbag full of coathangers and a couple of bags of general rubbish. No room for the two kitchen chairs (or time to break them up) or the branches that were sawn off the conifers last week, so another visit booked for Thursday afternoon to get rid of whatever we have managed to accumulate then, but definitely the two chairs and the garden stuff. We have a couple of cupboards left to clear here and the kitchen hasn't been touched yet so there's plenty to go through and no doubt a lot more junk to clear - and I haven't even thought about the loft yet.
Got to the tip, emptied everything out fairly quickly and had time to pop to Frozen Foods of the Farm before it closed, where I spent an obscene amount of money but came out with 72 toilet rolls, 120 cans of pop and obviously a freezer full of golden chicken and pu££a pies. I think it was f0xh0les who mentioned the duck loo roll, but my kids have decided it is far superior to the squishy, branded stuff I've been using for my entire adult life. But I am not complaining at 72 loo rolls for a tenner, and I now have cupboard space available for storage.
Got home and have sat on my backside thinking about what I should be doing rather than actually doing anything. My cupboard doors, painting the stairs, decluttering, cladding the outhouse - and I've added another 7 things to the frog list. Hopefully normal service will resume tomorrow. Not giving up

Hi CCL, long term lurker coming out of hiding to say your new kitten is beautiful. 💕 I have a lilac silver spotty BSH and would have one in every colour if I could (and there are sooo many 😱 😂).
My BSH boy was mental as a kitten but he is so laid back as an adult and such a friendly cat (on his own terms) but he can be shy with people he doesn't know, especially men. He's such a contrast for us as we always had orientals before and they are LOUD and demanding. Our BSH hardly makes a sound and we're always surprised if he miaows. Our Siamese boy does all the shouting in our house. 😂
Well done on all your house renovations and decluttering, it's almost as satisfying to read as it must be to do. 👀 😂Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. I suggested to dh about painting the wardrobes instead of replacing, and he was all for it! We'd even paint the insides and re-work them if poss too. Just need to get that pesky leak in the roof that means water comes down the wall at the back of my side of the wardrobes mended first...

Quick question.
What kind of cat carriers do you use?
Do any of your cats use a water fountain?
You have been a busy bee as usual.

Thank you sashybo. I wonder if I should have gotten another kitty but he is so sweet and as I say, a dream cat of mine. It will be hard work for a few weeks as our older cats are really not keen on him... but I hope he is chilled out and friendly as they're supposed to be.
Beanie - I use the bog standard plastic carriers with the cage type doors. We have 3 but they all have their own blanket that goes in there when it's their turn to go to the vet. I did used to have a fountain but it didn't get much use. I have a massive dog bowl of water in the living room which all of them except one uses. She will sit at the sink and wait for me to turn a tap on for her and drink straight from the tap. I got rid of the fountain a couple of years ago.
I genuinely don't feel like I got much done today to be honest. There's a lot still to do so I need to give myself a kick up the bum and get on with it.Not giving up

CCL, my Siamese was not amused when we brought a BSH kitten home as a new companion for him. He was used to having older (oriental) lady cats that looked after him and then was on his own for a while after we lost them both to illness, so he didn't want the competition.
He hissed and fluffed up his tail whenever he saw the BSH but the kitten didn't care, he wasn't scared of him at all. 😂 He actually batted the Siamese a few times and hissed back! There was an uneasy truce but they became friendly as time went on. It wasn't long until they were sleeping in the same beds and grooming each other as well as play fighting. The BSH is really laid back and just lets the Siamese think he's the boss when he really isn't. 😂
My BSH is a big softy and is really super tolerant of my 3 year old as well. The Siamese hates my DS and avoids him at all costs but the BSH keeps giving him chances and has never hurt him beyond a warning bite or a bat (without claws). I would get another in a heartbeat as he has such a lovely temperament.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
