I think my 'word' for 2020 is going to be Positivity. Unfortunately I had a stroke just before Christmas (all OK now, thank goodness) that has highlighted some other health issues that I think will take a little while to get resolved. BUT, in spite of that I went to Scotland for New Year with family and friends who looked after me and I had the most wonderful Hogmanay on my first ever visit to Scotland. Ive got a few nice events planned during the year. DH had bought me a very nice Boots pack of face creams and serums so a little pampering will be scheduled - lots of things to look forward to including a brand new Great Grandson in April ;)

Sorry to read that Silva, I don't know much about strokes but that seems like a quick recovery to me? That was lovely that you could still enjoy your trip to Scotland.:) Good news about the new arrival.

    Good morning lovely ladies.....

OMG. Silvasava......so sorry to hear about your stroke. Mercifully it sounds like a warning so do take heed and look after yourself.

Well I was going to moan about my rotten head cold and hacking cough but I don't think I dare now. ;). Suffice it to say I was awake till 6am, coughing away.

Managed to doze off and then some damn chancer knocked on my door at 9.30. Did I wake you, did I want my roof checking......

Of course you woke me you moron......all my curtains were closed, a clear enough do not disturb signal.

Yes, you woke me, I'm unwell.

He still tried his sale spiel.........I was hopping mad. :rotfl: I wouldn't give him any work now on principle.........some people just never learn do they.

SUgarbaby........so glad your daughter is on the road to recovery at last. That was a nasty one.

I am absolutely shattered now and thoroughly fed up but I just can't face going out, it is such a cold wind and rain is forecast. I think I'll just stay warm and cosy and maybe do some decluttering.......

Not the best start to the New Year.......never mind it will pass soon enough.

    Hello Ladies,

Silva sorry to hear that you believe you had a stroke. I hope I am not presuming, when I wonder if you in fact had a TIA (a mini stroke) or had warning signs of a stroke? I only ask as I know a lot about strokes and a stroke is not something a person recovers from quickly.

Thank you ladies for your good wishes about my daughter's ill health. :) Unfortunately she still has a way to go before she returns to good health. She still has very little appetite, so yesterday evening she only managed half a tin of baked beans. She is still hollow eyed and listless and tired when she is awake because she is still very weak. :(

My niece J and great niece paid me a visit yesterday afternoon. They had let me know that they intended to visit me a few days ago, but I had forgotten. It was a lovely visit nonetheless. They bought me a bunch of flowers. :D

Silvasava, glad to hear you are on the mend.
Lessonlearned, hope you're feeling better soon
Sugarbaby, I hope your daughter continues to improve.

Today was the first "back to routine" day for me but unfortunately I had something on my mind overnight which kept me awake for much of it. All sorted now so hopefully I'll sleep like a baby tonight!

    In the way of fabbing...
I've been to the gym and done two classes followed by a cool shower there - my dad tells me the water is usually really nice and hot, sods law it was the first time I was trying it rather then showering at home! Ah well, after the cool shower, I styled my hair, applied mascara, lippy and perfume, I changed into jeans/bright jumper and kitten heel shoes. I'm a housewife though so although I'd made the effort... I did come home and swap the heels for a pair of trainers (its from flylady days I don't seem to achieve much in the house in heels/flats /slippers or flipflops!) and I put another jumper over the top of my nice one (a very cheap dark one that I wouldn't be upset about if I got bleach on it etc) I remember my grandmother wearing an apron for housework but I don't have one so this was my thing instead! (on the plus side if anyone came to the door I'd have been able to pull the jumper off and look smart anyway! - whereas before xmas I'd not have made any effort :o

Hope everyone who has been unwell is feeling better.

So I went to the west end yesterday to see Mary Poppins. Booked a year ago as me and my daughter were desperate to see Charlie Stemp who was playing Bert since we saw him in half a sixpence three years ago!

Them we went on to see SIX which was the fourth time. We adore this price of theatre so much, its basically the six wives of Henry VIII having a competition to find out who had they worse time. In the frm of a concert. Its hilarious, sad, poignant and overall such fun. We will be going again!

I straightened my hair and made an effort to dress nicely.

Today I started a new job. It is a working from home role, but I had to go to a colleagues house. I made sure I used face cream (one of my habits I need to pick up again) and did my hair. It went well and I feel it is a role I will be able to do no problem once I am up to speed.

Then this evening I had a mobile hairdresser come and cut my hair. My normal hairdresser is in Australia until the end of the month so she arranged for this lady to sort me out. It was a bit desperate, love getting a haircut, always feel so much more polished when it is done.

So feel I am off to a fab start to the year!

I have two main make up looks tara. There's my everyday one which is generally very light and then one for going out in the evening when it's fairly dressy. The main difference is foundation. I don't really like anything too heavy so tend to wear a tinted moisturiser. During the day I wear nothing other than serum/moisturiser for most of the year (try to get a bit of tan on my face in summer) and when I'm looking pasty I'm currently using Clarins Beauty Flash Balm as that gives a bit of glow. Sometimes I'll put blusher on my cheeks too.

As well as that I do my eyebrows and/or have them tinted and always mascara and lippy. I'm more likely to use a highlighter on my browbones (and sometimes cheekbones) than eye shadow. I don't think I look 'made up' IYSWIM but I feel well groomed. :)

Thanks for sharing that maman. I do get my eyebrows waxed and tinted every now and again but going to try and make it a more regular thing. Wore mascara again today and will try a wee bit of lippy tomorrow :)

Bless you ladies for your good wishes.
I had an ischaemic stroke that affected my speech but thanks to our fantastic NHS I had the clot busting drug within the 3 hour timeline and was recovering within 24 hours. I have now been diagnosed with AF so that will be the focus to get sorted in the next few weeks hopefully as its making me quite breathless but seeing my Doc on Thursday.
Anyway! Onward and Upward - cant keep a budding fabulosa down!

LL - do get some R&R today - what a PITA when you needed a lie in :(
Sugar - do hope your daughter can manage a bit more food and starts to pick up.

Ive managed to use my new serum and day cream that DH bought me. My DiL bought me a cinema card for christmas so we may go today. I do need to get my hair done as I had to cancel before Christmas but I cant drive until the end of the month so may get DH to take me - depends how irritated it makes me feel ;)
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Hope everyone who has been unwell is feeling better.

I'll second that.:D It's a bad time of the year for illness and I really think a bit of SAD creeps in too which doesn't help. :(

I was chatting with a friend last night that's off on her annual jaunt to St Lucia at the end of the month and recalling how good it was when we went to India last February. At least the sun's peeping out here this morning!:D

It was raining when we went out last night so I wore my knee length leather boots instead of the suede ones. DH was very complimentary of the look (skinnies tucked into the boots). I felt it was a bit pantomime/principal boy but it is quite seasonal I suppose. :rotfl:

First dancing class tonight after the Christmas break. I'm looking forward to it, I'm enjoying this getting back to normality. :) I think I'll wear my long black cotton skirt. It's warm enough because it's lined and it's perfect for dancing. I could do with another so it's something I'll look out for in the CSs.

I haven't found it so cold this year that I've worn much of really thick clothes. When I was looking through my skirts in my everyday wardrobe I realised that a couple of the really thick ones are still packed away from last winter. I have some really thick jumpers too (Guernsey and Aran) that I normally wear to football but I haven't needed those either. Layering is enough. :)

On the agenda today is...the ironing mountain.:(

Silva, I stand corrected. I am glad that you are recovering so quickly from your stroke. Your Atrial Fibrillation will hopefully be treated successfully and you will be able to get on with your life in a way which does not restrict you.

My daughter managed to eat about 3 tablespoons of rice with some gravy yesterday evening. She is very cautious when trying to get some food down, as she is still feeling very unwell. I phoned the Doctor on her behalf, so that she can speak to a Doctor today. As I believe from her symptoms that she has Norovirus and so a visit to the surgery is not advisable as she would be infectious to others.

    Good morning lovely ladies...

Coughing so much my ribs hurt.:rotfl: but I did manage to sleep a bit better last night so hopefully heading in the right direction.

I know what you mean about getting back to normal Maman. I am always ready to get stuck in after the Christmas break. Unfortunately I am still not 100% so having to postpone quite a few things at the moment.

On a more positive note, I managed a short walk this morning before the rain set in. Picked up some nice library books. No more amazon books for a while. Need to stick to the money diet.:rotfl:

My friend sent me a note today reminding me that it was two years to the day that we set sail on our Amazon adventure. How time flies. I must admit I fancy a nice winter sunshine break, not this year though. I have spent more on the renovations than I wanted so I'm pulling my horns in for a while. Maybe next winter. And in the meantime I have my Iceland trip booked for August.

Next year I will have finished the house renovations so hopefully there will be both more time and more money for travel and adventures.

Have booked the cars MOT for next Friday. Fingers crossed.

Chucking it down now, looks set for the day. Might do a bit of decluttering. Aiming to do a couple of charity shop runs and tip runs this month. I can hardly get in the shed and the top bedroom is out of control.......

Glad they caught the stroke in time Silva so not too much permanent damage. Timing is everything. Do take care and do whatever it takes to prevent another one,

    Our health is so precious......

It is definitely my top priority this year. Popped myself on the scales, stayed the same. That's ok, because I haven't been exactly on top of the healthy eating these last few weeks. But I'm back on it now.

Have a great day y'all. Onwards and upwards my dears.
